The insurance fee was included in the monthly payment, although the insurance was with a seperate company, all I have is the mortgage account number and the period it ran for, would this be sufficient information to proceed with a claim?

What would be your reasons for complaint?

MPPI has a low success rate on complaints. It suffers less of the issues that laon and credit card PPI has.

If it was single premium, i.e. added to your mortgage as a lump sum, then yes, make a complaint.
I don't understand really though what you're saying.

If another company supplied the insurance, why would you pay another company for it? Did the insurance company then take their fee from the company that took the one payment?

I have the same question, i was not even told of ppi being part of mortgage payment, but noticed this year it is listed seperately on mortgage statement. therefore i ask same question can we ask for a refund and if mortgage lender states they no longer hold paperwork for mppi (new regs up to six years), however mortgages being running much longer, can we challenge mortgage lender on this excuse?

i did not even know they put ppi on mortgages and i was certainly not told about it at time of taking mortgage.

  • @karen who is your mtge with

My annual statement from Halifax has insurance lumped in with it - but its home and contents.

I thought mppi was standalone insurance. Mine is with the halifax

I wouldnt dream of making a complaint on it though - it saved my bacon (and home) a few years ago when I was ill

No lender has ever done single premium on a first charge mortgage (that was a dodgy broker thing). So, we know the single premium complaint is not applicable.

You are not asking for a refund. You are making a formal complaint about you perceive to be a wrongdoing.

Halifax used to collect payment on insurances with the mortgage payment and pay the premiums for the insurance that way. This is not single premium. It was monthly as the entry for the insurance would go through the same time as the monthly payment. All the statements I have seen over the years have shown the insurance included in the payment. Although recently they have changed their layout.

Your allegation is very weak. It is unprovable and all the try-it-on complaints use that reason. That doesnt mean it wont succeed as Halifax may decide to auto payout or another failing may be identified. However, MPPI has a lower success rate on complaints and the banks tend to not roll over as much on MPPI unless the amount is small or they are busy.
