I just had another rejected payment, to a company that I had paid over a dozen times before with the same sort code and account number every time. The amount was a low 3 figures so really no reason for the rejection.

I was quite upset when I called Santander to complain.........just to be told it wasn't them who rejected the payment. Though they apparently couldn't see the reason for the rejection. They tried to make the payment again and it was rejected by the receiving bank - again no reason given, apparently.

I then called the payee, and they confirmed they had closed the account in question and they'd forgotten to give me their alternative bank details. Payment to their other account now went through first time without a hitch.

Shame the Faster Payment system couldn't tell me that the original payment was rejected because the account had been closed. The payee's bank was Lloyds, btw.

I sent a payment of £1000 from Santander to a new payee. Within minutes I received an automated voice call to my mobile, asking me to call back, a text with the same request, and then an automated landline call during which I had to press a few keys to confirm that the transaction was valid. The voice told me the payment was authorised. They still delayed it till the next day!

I know they're allowed to do this (delay), but other banks don't. :(

I’ve just had a Fast payment rejected to a normal external mandate that I pay into, when I questioned this on the phone they told me they could not see on my account any reason why this should have happened & now my statement shows this as a rejected payment the day after I requested an external mandate payment to happen, they have automatically sent it again now!!! Santander banking is Just crazy & I have no confidence in it!!!

Here is there Reply to me on the Subject,

When you make an unusual payment via your online banking, on the confirmation screen, we provide you with the following information:
'Your payment request is being processed and will show on your account and statement no later than the end of the next working day subject to normal bank checks,
please do not attempt this transaction again'.
When you initially make a payment you will see the payment debit straight away, however, it will still be going through the normal bank checks by our Security Team.
This process occurs in the background and can take one full working day to complete.
After this process has been completed you will see the payment credited back into your account with the value date of the date of debit to ensure you do not miss out
on interest. You will then immediately see a second debit for the same amount with the correct date.
This second payment will be sent via Faster Payments, which means it will arrive at the destination account within 2 hours of debiting the account.
I apologise for any confusion caused by this process but I can assure you that this policy is in place to keep you and your account safe.
You can see a full break down of your account transactions on your online banking under the My Accounts and Transactions tab along the top followed by View
Transactions from the left hand menu.
I hope this information is useful and if you have any other queries, please do not hesitate to contact me via Secure Messaging or to ring my colleagues on 0845
    9724724, Monday to Saturday 7am to 11pm and Sunday 8am to 10pm.
    Kind regards,
    Santander Customer Services

:mad:Santander describe the Transaction as "Unsual":rotfl:, I describe this as a "Normal Banking" transaction which I have Authorised & Santander had Rejected, this happens all the time

Sent a faster payment from my recently opened 123 a/c to my Halifax current Account yesterday afternoon. Still not appeared this morning so I rang them and they said it's because of security checks and will take 16hrs to clear!

I will never use them for manual FPs. In the future, I will send them the required £500 per month via FP and withdraw it at an ATM.

Just to revive this thread. I've always used the "send £1 first" system, especially when i plan to then follow up with large transfer, as i worry i've entered the account details wrong. Usually OK, but just been blocked by Santander.

On reading this threat i'm hoping it'll resolve itself over the next day or two. I can check recipient account though...cos it's me!
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)
