Hi all
I'm looking for a good, easy-to-use e-mail client to use instead of going to the webmail every time.
I'm not too keen on the setup for Outlook Express, so can anyone recommend anything?
It will need to be easy to use, include emoticons and smilies (for my other half) and be able to handle two completely different e-mail addresses (one for me and one for the other half).
All recommendations accepted, but please include pros and cons.
Oh, yeah, and free would be nice as well!!

I recommend that you download and install the Opera browser; http://www.opera.com/
The email client is integrated in to the browser. Once set up it's very easy to use and very fast.
For example, if you're viewing a webpage and you you want to send a friend a link, it will take less than five seconds. Text on a webpage... the same.
You'll be up and running within five minutes of downloading the browser.
The browser itself is excellent.0 -
Try Mozilla Thunderbird. Very easy to use and I prefer it to Outlook Express.
Instead of using one email client with two separate accounts have you thought of setting up separate accounts for you and your OH then you can both have the PC set up exactly how you want it?It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends

Thanks Donnie : Didn't really want a new browser as we've got used to IE7.
Just wanted a new e-mail client.
BillyScarab : We've both got separate logins on the PC as I use some programs that she doesn't (I've got the shortcuts on my desktop). Don't know if that makes a difference.
BTW, can I remove OE from my installation of Windows XP as we never use it?:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

The aforemention Mozilla ThunderBird is good, but don't let that stop you trying Opera.
IE just copies their innovation.0 -
No idea how easy Outlook Express is to remove. In theory you should be able to but when I installed Thunderbird I just left it and ignored it.
Sorry I misunderstood what you meant when you said you wanted to use two different email addresses. I read it as though you had one logon to the computer and used the same e-mail client to access different mail addresses. It's my problem, it's my problem

I think you can just remove OE (in XP anyway) though Add/Remove programs and the Add/Remove Windows Components tab."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

What's your email provider, some don't support pop3 (without paying anyway, eg new hotmail accounts)?"She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Now for the techie stuff!
I can (just about) set up OE for our e-mail accounts.
How would I set up Thunderbird, what settings/info do I need?
I have a Tiscali.co.uk address, my other half has an fsmail.net address.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

Go into the account options in OE and make a note of all of the details then follow this guide to setting up Thunderbird.
http://opensourcearticles.com/articles/thunderbird_15/english/part_01
You can keep OE open whil you set up Thunderbird so you can check the settings as you go along.
You might want to check out section 6 of the guide as well re importing all of your mail from OE.It's my problem, it's my problem

Thunderbird is the obvious choice that many will recommend. It's a very good mail client.
Opera too. I'm a big fan of Opera, light and fast. Excellent software. The mail client isn't the most advanced, but it'll do what you need it to do. The big let done for me (last time I i tried it) is that it's not as easy to manage profiles when compared with Thunderbird. Especially if you want multiple profiles and want to sit them on a second hard drive. Also Thunderbird profiles work fine between Windows and Linux (should you try it one day).
Evolution for Windows is another suggestion. I use it in Linux but there is a Windows port/version, although I've never tried it."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0
