Depends on the phone. Most can be unlocked by either purchasing a code online or you can take the phone to a local independent shop. Some phones like the iPhone can only be unlocked through the network. The networks have different unlocking policies and they can also differ between PAYG and pay monthly customers. Some phones you can unlock for free yourself. Also depending on where you buy the handset it may come unlocked anyway.WelshDragon71 wrote: »Is it easy to unlock phones?
Well you don't have to pay it I suppose. Their T&Cs say that if you don't have enough credit to pay the £10 each month no payment is taken and you pay for usage at the standard PAYG rate. Still, it's a poor offer and much better is available elsewhere.WelshDragon71 wrote: »Yeah that's what I initially thought, if i have to pay a tenner every month then it's not much of a pay and go tariff is it?!! I'm kind of hoping someone with an O2 pay and go go go tariff can clarify this!
On giffgaff that £10 would get you 500 mins, unlimited texts and 1GB of data per month on the O2 network. Their out of plan charges are much cheaper too.mum2one wrote:I get 500mb, 500 texts, 150 mins - so for me, it was better than the tariff I was on before.0 -
02 you can pay £10 pay as you go and you get free texts or Internet I think it's quite good and takes a while to use your tennerNeeding to lose weight start date 26 December 2011 current loss 60 pound Down. Lots more to go to get into my size 6 jeans0

I'm on the pay and go go tariff - when I put the money on the phone - £10 it takes that off me and gives me the months allowance, - if I want a plus balance, I have to put more money on.
I get 500mb, 500 texts, 150 mins - so for me, it was better than the tariff I was on before.

That is quite expensive, and easily bettered. On giffgaff that £10 would get you 500 mins, unlimited texts and 1GB of data per month on the O2 network. Their out of plan charges are much cheaper too.
There is GiffGaff (as above) or if you don't mind some adverts on your internet browsing you could also consider Ovivo.
For £0 per month, you can have 150 min, 250 text and 500MB data. There is a £15 payment for the sim, which is retained as credit, and then no further payments required to get the allowance.====0 -
Many thanks once again...Just a few more questions.
If I buy just the Experia U (£150 on amazon...is it cheaper anywhere else?) I presume it's already unlocked, then I can get any sim only deal and just slap the sim in? Also, if I decide to change, I can just get another sim from another company and just swap the sims?0 -

Don't get too excited just yet. This Sony Xperia E here has been showing out of stock since April and the stock status has never changed. Not in stores either. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

It would be (if/when stock arrived).
CarphoneWarehouse have it in stock for £139, (buy it as PAYG for £129 with a £10 top up).
CPW PAYG are simfree and unlocked, you might even be able to sell the new simcard with the £10 credit on, making it even cheaper.

If you have a current PAYG sim (or have a family member or friend with one) it might be eligible for a PAYG upgrade.
PAYG upgrade is only £109 at CPW.
