Thanks for all the suggestions guys n gals. Think I may attempt to make a shepherds pie tonight and see how it goes. At least if it looks to be going wrong I can bin it at the end of the night!

Does it taste just as good if you make it one night and leave it over night in the fridge to be heated up. Do I have to do anything different to make sure it tastes ok the next night?

It's one of those dishes that tastes amazing after a night in the fridge.

    I Use

    1 large Onion
    1 packet of mince
    1 packet of mushrooms
    Veg on the side.

I am making this today too.

I put the potatoes on first.

I tend to start by browning the mince then add the onions - when they are soft I make some gravy and add this and the mushrooms and leave to simmer.

Mash the potatoes and then put the meat part in a dish followed by the mash and run over with a fork (nice little detail) put in the oven until slightly browned.

I take it out and let it cool then put it in the fridge. It has much more flavour when it has been left in the fridge, How can anything made from scratch be lazy?

Tomorrow prepair the veg (i like carrots and broccoli on the side)

Dish pie up onto your plates and microwave for 5 mins then add veg on the side and put nice runny thick gravy over it all. Yum

From personal experience I do find this a time consuming meal though its pretty foolproof to cook as long as you dont burn on the hob!

I think some others are easier and tastier if you want to impress.

If your thinking of cooking dessert, a fondue works great and very romantic too!

Do you, or anyone else have any ideas on easier and tastier alternatives?

Posted a few already, if you can tell us maybe in more detail what you might like to do.

    Light vs filling

    Meat? If so any preference?

    Cooking method?

Yeah I liked the sound of your bacon over chicken option - do you have a more solid recipe for this? Really my cooking knowledge is very basic!! :(

As to meat preferably beef or chicken.

As for cooking method limited to a table top set up so can only use oven + one hob at a time. Or grill and nothing else.

    Again any advice appreciated

:( so you don't like my 15 minute Thai green curry option.

If you pour your good lady a glass of wine and send her off for a nice relaxing bath you will have plenty of time for any quick stir-fry options.

Use 2 rashers of streaky bacon for each chicken breast.

Take a sheet of foil and make about the size of an A3 piece of paper. Put a teeny bit of oil in the centre so the chicken wont stick.

Get a chicken breast and just wrap the bacon round and round so the chicken is covered. Try to do tightly as pos!

Place in the centre of the foil. Take the sheet with the longest sides to the left and right of you. Pick them up and hold together. Now rol them up, finishing about an inch above the chicken. Now take the other side of the foil and fold over once, so forming a parcel. Dont wrap too tightly as the chicken will sort of steam itself inside.

To do the veg I would recommend red and orange peppers, courgette, potatoes and cherry tomatoes. Wash them all and chop the courgette (discarding the ends) and potato into small cubes about the size of a dice, for the peppers remove the green at the top, the seeds and the white bits inside and also chop into squares but slightly larger. Leave the tomatoes whole. Put on a baking sheet and drizzle with veggy oil.

Put the chicken in for half an hour at about 180c and add the veggies 10 minutes into the chickens cooking time.

Its best to buy equally sized and fairly flat chicken breasts, sometimes one needs more than the other if you have a thick part which can be a pain.

    Spaghetti bolognaise
    Homemade burgers
Barbeque sauce (to serve with other things or cook chicken drumsticks or ribs in)
Risotto (can add your own combination of ingredients but my personal fave is cheese, chicken and sun dried tomato)
    Pasta Carbonara (tastes amazing!!)
    Toad in the hole
    Sun dried tomato topped salmon
    Tuna pasta

If I am pushed for time i always make a lasagna using fresh lasagna sheets. Then I set the timer so the oven is preheated by the time I expect to get home so it is just popped in the oven for about 30 mins. Just enough time for your girlfriend to have a nice soak in the bath or shower!

What a lovely boyfriend you are, this would definately earn you major brownie points in my eyes.

If you want to do a pudding a really easy one is lemon cheesecake using condensed milk, lemons and bit of cream. Really easy to make and tastes lush - a lovely lady on this site suggested it to me when I had a couple of tins of condensed milk to use up.

    Any chance of the recipe??
