Henry smells of sick.

I have a Henry hoover. It was used for DIY stuff over the years and has sooked up more than it's fair share of sawdust and plaster dust amongst other things.
I took it to bits (literally unscrewed every screw I could see) and washed it all in the sink but after putting it all together again, it smells worse than ever. It smells of sick and I have no idea why.
The only thing I can think of is that maybe there is stuff still trapped in the creases in the hose and running water through the hose has somehow activated smells coming from it.
Other than that, it's the motor section itself but I obviously can't wash that.
The smell is invasive, the hoover was left in the kitchen overnight and the whole room stunk the next morning.
Any ideas on how to get this usable again? It picks up well, hasn't lost power but I can't use it if it's going to smell the place out.
I did think of putting some bag air freshener things in but tbh that isn't going to cut it and is only a mask, it's not treating the problem.

Fill a bucket, large enough to take the hose, with water and some bleach and soak it overnight. That should sort it. If it still stinks you'll know it's not the hose.
Have you replaced the bag and any filters?0 -

Yes, new bag and the only filter I could see was a small piece of foam stuff wrapped round the motor section which I took out a washed in the sink. It wasn't actually dirty though and didn't smell, but I washed it anyway.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Try buying some of the odor killing spray or an aircon reconditioner, put it in a small room like a WC or under stair cupboard, and run the Henry in there for 10mins or so.0

Never thought of the aircon reconditioner, good idea. I'll try both suggestions, an overnight soak and the aircon thing.
Thanks both.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Could it be something inside the motor that's burning?"If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

I had an old car that smelled like this years ago, the problem was milk had leaked in the boot and despite having the car valeted, using copious amounts of baking soda and bleach the smell would always return, does that ring a bell at all? had to get rid of the stinky car in the end.:happyloveThank you, thank you, thank you :happylove0

Sorry, should have been clearer...I assumed that went without saying (mentioning that one I mean), I was talking about only seeing one other filter when I dismantled the thing.Herman - MP for all!0
