The crime rate is higher in didsbury than cheetham hill? That surprises me. Only time I've seen a gun pulled on someone was in cheetham hill.
I'd head further into Cheshire or Lancashire. But I like the countryside. The futures bright the future is Ginger0 -
I was brought up near CH and I wouldn't live there, it was always known for it's high crime rate.
Didsbury has some lovely areas, a lot of students live in Didsbury, I think you need to do your research again.
How about Prestwich or Whitefield if you want to be in North Manchester?Every Penny's a Prisoner.

Cheetham Hill is a hell hole compared to Didsbury.
I have friends who live in both areas, the one living in Cheetham Hill is desperate to move away as it's rough, the one living in Didsbury doesn't believe how lucky she is as houses/flat rentals go off the market within a day.Mortgage 1: May 2012 £90,000 April 2020: £47,000
Mortgage 2: £270,000😱 Jan 2019 £253,000 April 20200 -

I really wanted to say Cheetham Hill is a dump but I was too polite!
Some friends have just been to visit Didsbury as their daughter will be living there while at university, they couldn't believe how nice it was.Every Penny's a Prisoner.

There's some award winning restaurants in Didsbury. There's a chip shop where they had a Christmas meal deal. Pudding was a battered Christmas pudding...it was sooo good!!!! The same chip shop also has another in Alderly Edge.Mortgage 1: May 2012 £90,000 April 2020: £47,000

Are you sure?? I'd avoid CH like the plague!0

I cannot thank you enough for your responses. I guess see Hache is a complete dump. No wonder the lovely house I want to buy was listed at under 90 K. I know Didsbury is renowned for burglary, but CH is a no go based on your responses. I don't want to live anywhere where I will need a bullet-proof vest. Any suggestions welcome, I just need to be near the University of Manchester and good railing and car links0

Chorlton is a good place to live, plenty of buses to the uni and the metrolink into Manchester city centre. Very cosmopolitan feel, lots of bars and restaurants, shops etc.
It also has a huge organic "supermarket," which has won the best local retailer award.

Fallowfield is also a student area, again, plenty going on.
If you want to be near the uni, i'd opt for south manchester, opposed to north manchester.Fred - Where's your get up and go?
Barney - It just got up and went.

I was brought up in Manchester and I'm a regular visitor, I have never heard of Didsbury having a particularly high rate of burglary. It's verging onto Cheshire and footballer homes area so are you looking at that with regards to the crime rate?
I second south Manchester if you are going to Uni.
Good luck, keep us posted on what you decide.Every Penny's a Prisoner.

Didsbury in a thousand times nicer than Cheetham Hill.
It completely depends on your budget. Burnage/Didsbury/Heaton Mersey are all nice enough areas decent commuter links and i have lived in all of those areas with no burglary.
Chorlton i have never lived in but it borders some of the not so good areas so i would personally avoid there - but other people tend to have a difference of opinion (so i accept i could be in the wrong).
Withington/Fallowfield tend to be a big student area - but in that, there will be more burglaries (thieves know students have laptops, ipods/pads etc).I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
