Thanks for the replies everyone.
To clarify, I would prefer a diesel saloon but quite happy to go for petrol. I'd like it to be reasonably quick also, nothing major, just less than 9 seconds 0-62.
Quite tempted in getting a focus, reasonably cheap cars.0 -

Personally I would take too much notice of the 0-60 unless it's really bad, as some cars are geared for different purposes, I'd rather have something that's quickish to 30 and some oomph for the motorway or overtaking.
Take the Saxo VTS for example, it was geared for a faster 0-60 time than the 106 GTI but ended up not being as nice to drive because of this.0 -

Fair point, mostly motorway so good performance in the 60-70 mark is preferred.
I was originally thinking of spending 5-6k. If you halved this budget what car would you personally buy? (if you had the same requirements as me)0 -
What do you guys think to a 3 series coupe, 03 plate you can get them for around the 3k mark. Mainly petrols but poss a few diesels.0

Can I refer you to your original post.I really can't afford to pay repair bills once i have the car as i'm saving for a house deposit and a wedding!
Really think hard what your priorities are, whether you want a cheap car, a reliable car or a fancy badge. If you want a decent car that's reasonable fun to drive get a Focus, £3k should get you a nice mark 2 in Titanium (half leather, Sony CD) or Zetec spec.
Alternatively a diesel Octavia if you want to save money on fuel.
Fancy a nice badge and good drive, then get a BMW, just remember it may end up costing more to look after than a Ford or Jap/Korean car.
What are you driving at the moment?0 -

Can i have all 3
Its not so much the badge as the looks. Nothing I know of thats similar to a 3 series coupe.
I've got a Fiesta 11 plate titanium at the moment.
Are they quite simple engines in the 3 series? If so my Dad would be able to fix most things.0 -
Personally I'd keep the Fiesta. Make its depreciation work for you rather than gifting it to someone else.0

Not as straight forward as that mate.
Basically got it through a company scheme, selling it now should net me a profit of 1-2k (having owned it for 2 years) so if i use that profit to spend on a car i'll only ever lose that profit and a bit more. Whereas if I kept my car i'll lose that within a year.0 -
The 3 series coupe is a good looking car, my Dads neighbour has an 03 M3 CSL and the thing is a beauty.
Can't really help you on the looks front, everyones opinion is different.
From the Lexus mentioned I assumed you were an old fella after a compact executive car.
I'm a fan of Astra sports hatches (petrol) for looks and Fabia VRS for bit of fun. If you're not too tall, then £3k would get a decent Hyundai Coupe or a reliable Toyota Celica. I've always liked the Ford Cougar but not had the balls to buy one.
This is a nice looking coupe for £3k (I'd want a longer MOT though)

Nah, I get where you'd get that impression though. It's not really a young mans car. I'm a 25 year old accountant.
I did like the hyundai coupes but my mate hate one and had nothing but problems with it so its kind of put me off them.0
