Washing-machine given up the ghost after 13yrs

All of the cheaper machines are not very well made , most are made by a company called merloni in Italy and then rebranded into lots of other names.
i had a servis machine 3 years ago that lasted 14 months then the bearings on drum collapsed then the drum seized in the middle of a spin cycle and burnt the motor out too.
This was all because the main drum bearings were small and about a third the size of bearings in older machines from the 80/90,s.
Be aware with bosch too that the cheaper bosch machines were just a rebranded spanish machine and build quality was very poor, not sure if thats still the case as i no longer work for Zanussi/Hotpoint.
If your gonna get a bosch or mielle you should go for the higher priced ones as theyre more likely to be german made still.0 -

Another vote for Bosch!
My Bosch Maxx is approximately 10 years old, and never once let me down. Strong and sturdily built, does approximately 3 - 5 washes a week, wouldn't consider any other make.0 -
Bosch all the way for me too.
Old Bosch machine gave up after approx 13 years, and currently on 2nd Bosch reaching 8 years. Only 1 repair in that 8 years, and used every other dayRegards,

if/when my current bosch gives up, i'll be looking at another bosch (as already said, not from the cheaper end/lower spec) or an ISE which i found on the UKwhitegoods forum (the most helpful place if you ever have any issues). possibly even better than a Miele & similar money, but you get a 10 year parts & labour warranty with ISE.0

Rather than just looking at the make I would look at the wash cycle, mine (Tricity/Bendix) takes 1.5 hrs to do a wash! It must use loads of electricity, I'll look more carefully for my next washer.0
