New TalkTalk Router / Fibre

I'm with TalkTalk and am upgrading to Fibre. TT have sent me a new Router as part of this. Can I start using this new router now, or do I have to wait for the engineer to come and installs the firbre?

You have to wait for the engineer to install it. Basically you've been given a fibre router, and it is incompatible with ADSL. Also you have to wait for Openreach to install the separate modem as well.

There is no physical fibre line installed to the house-it's fibre to the cabinet (FTTC). The OR engineer simply connects up the new fibre modem to your existing copper wires.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Nobody said there was. But the engineer also changes the faceplate.

OP did infer that they were waiting for the fibre to be installed.
    Very nice them VDSL faceplates.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Apologies if I was unclear, I'm not particularly well up on the technicalities involved - I'm sure it is FTTC though.

Anyway, engineer is coming tomorrow and I'm looking forward to finding out how much faster my connection is going to be - I currently get about 1.3-1.8Mbps.

    Thanks.

They should have given an estimate as to what you could get.

Yes but their estimate for the standard broadband was a lot more than I actually got :D

    I'm up and running :-)

TT estimate was up to 38Mbps and the engineer said she thought this was realistic... although it could take 10 days to get up to that.

Various wireless speed tests done today ranging from 15-20Mbps.

Ethernet is the way for speed tests.

so after yesterday I got up this morning to find it is no longer working at all... the red "Internet" light on the router is a solid red. Tried turning everything off and on a couple of times but no joy.

called into talktalk but their systems were down. The only good think is that I got straight through on the phone.
