    Asking a workplace rep for support in having a conversation with the employer is not provocative or confrontational in any way. I'm not suggesting the OP demands that the union call a strike over this!


    I agree, the union rep may also know if there are others in a similar position, presumably there are others that work the night shift, so it may be appropriate to organise a session for them.
