If it's unprotected your partner won't lose her "5 years no claims".

A claim will mean she will still have 3 years NCD at renewal (assuming it is currently unprotected).

Do dummy quotes online to see what difference 3 or 6 years NCD makes to the premium before buying a new car without claiming.

(The write off will still have to be disclosed as a loss as part of her driving history when getting quotes from new companies over the next 3/5 years even if she doesn't claim)

Your supposed to drive on the left. Stay in the left hand lane unless overtaking though. Not sit in the middle lane just in case.

Cars joining the carriageway from a slip or side road should adjust their speed to the traffic already on the major road.

Apexilon, you need to understand that you should have been travelling in the nearside lane. People are being fined for lane hogging. I'm not blaming you or your partner in any way but maybe the incident would not have happened if you had been in the correct lane.

Maybe the other driver was just fulfilling a fantasy that many of us have had over the years - bumping a middle lane hog back into the lane where they should be.....
