hi all,
just been to tesco and wine gums came up as 1p. going to the diy till the attendant noticed and refused the sale on the grounds that the item is wasted? i dont understand this term, there was no price on the item or a sticker above.
did she tell me a porky as wasted item in my mind means something else.
thinking about calling them. am i wasting my time?

I don't know what she meant by wasted, but they are not under any obligation to sell items. If they refuse your payment then there is no contract.0

It might be that the gums had passed their sell by date. (although I don't know if this can be programmed into the till system).0

yes i think basically she was a sad jobsworth, and prob put them all now in staff room. next time i see her i will ask her again what she meant and make my feelings felt.0

Wasted item = Tesco have written off that stock0

Wasting your time for what? You really want to are over a packet of gums.0

'Wasted' is probably Tesco talk for 'this stock has been legally written off for audit and so cannot be sold-it is officially waste'.0

Post number 7 above is the accurate term.'Wasted' is probably Tesco talk for 'this stock has been legally written off for audit and so cannot be sold-it is officially waste'.
No I don't work for Tesco but many companies I've worked for do exactly the same thing.
She will have only been doing her job and making any further fuss when you next see her will just be being very petty and will just sound like it was really sour grapes that you couldn't get them for 1p!0 -
I said the wasted term first but hey0

So the assistant was only doing her job as the item was not allowed to be sold - fair enough. BUT someone had not done their job correct as surely the item should have been removed from the shelves to stop this happening. Therefore if you feel you want to OP I think you do have reason to write to / call the head office to tell them of your experience.
Personally I don't think I would go to the hassle but you may get a free packed of wine gums out of it0
