I hit a kerb last night, when the other driver wouldn't move over. My tyre has a slash in it.
It is a Renault Megane, and has that can in the boot, instead of a spare tyre.
I belong to the RAC, will they come out and fix my tyre, and not make me buy a new one from them. Can they fix it so I can take it and get a new tyre from my local supplier which is so much cheaper. I haven't got money to spare, but I need the car, and I can't work out how to use the can.

Hi, unfortunately I have bad news for you.

You obviously have no spare wheel and that can of liquid latex stuff is great as a temporary fix if you have a puncture caused by a screw or a nail in the tread.

You say that the tyre has a slash or a cut in it - that can't be fixed, even temporarily with any can of Tyre weld or whatever it's called these days.

The RAC or AA cannot help as you have no serviceable spare.

Your only solution if you don't want to buy a tyre from them is to take off the wheel and go with the wheel to a tyre dealer and buy one there. That might not save you much money at all.

The RAC wont make you buy a tyre from them, but you have very few options.

No one can fix a tyre with a slash in it.

I have just called the RAC, I know it will cost me, but I have no other option. I had to buy a battery of them at Christmas time.
I will have to get a spare tyre, been meaning to get one for ages. Its one thing after another. The manufacturers need to put spares in the car, as I think that it is pure health and safety on the roads, as a lot of people in new cars, automatically think they have one in the boot. I hope the tyre won't cost that much? The guy on the phone said they might be able to restructure it, but I doubt it.

Why not call a mobile tyre company?

Surely this is rubbish nowadays. Most new cars don't come with a spare and just a can of tyre weld, which is as much use as a chocolate teapot!

They would surely put the car on a flatbed and take it to the nearest tyre shop? If not, I again would be cancelling ASAP.

Alternatively, as Annie said, call a mobile tyre company. It will cost you but better than being stranded :)

No it doesn't have a well wheel, and I am totally digusted with their no show last night, but my car is outside my house, so I am luckily not stranded. Going to buy a spare tyre this week, as it is a ridiculous situation, and that can of goo, is as you say as much use as a chocolate teapot. We will see if they turn up tonight at 7. Never had this bother with the AA.

Car manufactures in an effort to drive down CO2 save as much weight as possible to meet European legislation, in most cases have done away with spare wheels. You can buy a wheel from the dealer but in most cases there is no longer a space in the boot for them.
