  • I do notice lots of little price hikes in Tescos on their cheaper items lately. One of my bugbears this week, Tescos oat biscuits 50p a pack Friday, 59p a pack today....though they are gorgeous!

Actually, you could. I used to buy the value lemonade back in the 90's and it was about 17p then, so 24p is still a damn good price considering how much the cost of food has gone up.

i remember it 9p a bottle and the value cola , i cant drink them these days but they were cheper than above

also when ever a product is on offer with one company another one of there ranges goes up;)

Not just value lemonade either, I always buy the 2ltr Value still water from Tesco and last week I noticed it too had increased in price from 17p to 24p! On water?!

Why buy water at all? We in Britain have probably the best quality water in the world - on tap. The water you are buying for 24p is probably coming from a tap somewhere anyway - remember the Coca Cola water fiasco?

That's what I was thinking, because the value water is not mineral water.

What puts me off bottle water that it doesn't have to conform to the same standards and the retention time is significant compared to tap water.

Often bottle water is tap water stored in a plastic bottle for months.

In other words you are saying that tap water is better quality than bottled.

Yes, I think it is. Leaving aside the very doubtful claims made for the efficacy of mineral water, you have no idea how long it's been in the plastic bottle which has been proven to leech chemicals, let alone the environmental impact of millions of plastic bottles being transported round the world and the disposal of same.

All the supermarkets pull the same sneaky stunts hoping we wont notice. Price rises are bad enough but I detest pack shrinkage more as it is a hidden rise. Morrison saver bread has shrunk from 800 to 720g recently an effective 10% rise. You are actually better buying their own "standard" bread if you buy two it is the same price as the saver but 80g heavier per loaf

Many supermarkets track their competitors prices particularly on staples and basics and often a price change in one will trigger others to raise or lower prices.

For anyone using the big four I would suggest a look at Aldi and Lidl. Although they do not have the same choice (but do we really need 20 brands of beans etc) price/quality balance is often superior

I bought a litre of juice in tesco last week by the company cracker, a pound ,was in the next day, was 1.20 and the price on the shelf was 1.50 crossed out saying 30p saving.

That's what I hate about tesco, its dearer than the day before but a bargain, ridiculous.
