It is quite insulting to say that aliasojo was 'lucky'.

I was giving him the benefit of the doubt and assumed he didn't actually mean to be offensive. :D

I did not mean it to be offensive no!

I have experienced all kinds of things whilst working as a plumber and still can find seemly easy jobs are the ones that can be the ones that become nightmares . . . .

I will not say that plumbing is easy!

I have already said that if you are competent as a diyer you may be ok - did I not????

Did you even read my previous posts properly?

And as for self promoting on here that is ridiculous. Plumbers only serve their local area. Why would I want to promote myself on a national website then?

    Doh!!!!

Tell me plumbing is easy when you have electrocuted yourself or drilled through a water main and flooded your house!
I was going to put the name of my plumbing business here so you know what I do should I give out any advice plumbing wise - however apparently I cant do that - go figure!!!!!

What ridiculous sweeping statements, there are plenty people that are quite capable of doing their own plumbing jobs, some minor others major.

I am an ex electronics engineer but I have installed radiators, plumbed washing machines and many other plumbing jobs without any problems plus in the past removing car engines, rebuilding gearboxes etc.

Some people are more than capable of DIY you do not have to be an expert, having said that I am always willing to accept advice if necessary.

Obviously you are not a DIYer are you?

OMG people are so damn touchy on this precious little forum aren't they?

    That's a bit unfair.

Don't get defensive with me, that's not fair. I thanked you for your input and I pointed out when the matter of being offensive was raised, that you probably didn't mean to be (your comment could be read in different ways and I was pointing out I assumed it wasn't meant in the offensive way it could be read) and I added a smilie to try to lighten what was becoming a bit serious.

I said nothing that could possibly give you the impression I did not read your post properly.

Sorry that was not clear by that comment was directed to Valhaller's misguided rant!

I know you at least understand where I am coming from (thanks!)

I said this to Valhaller as I stated you can indeed plumb if you are DIY competent! I stated that I thought you were knowledgeable based on what you had done previously (despite this being ignored!)

You are right Aliasojo - this post is getting too serious!

I stand by my statements however.

You cannot just pick up a spanner for the first time ever and not expect to get into a pickle!

It sounds like there are many who think you can however.

It is disturbing even to find some guys on here fiddling about with electrics as well in other posts . . . ..

I think with DIY you have to exercise extreme caution!

There is a very good reason why trademen have insurance covering them for milllions of pounds of 'property damage' . . ..

I have heard tales time and time again from experienced tradesmen who have damaged themselves with tools or caused considerable damage to people propertys during the course of their work!

We have to know where to draw the line!

Nothing misguided about my post, it was aimed at you, mehera, and given your reaction, it hit home.

I see that you are still linking to your homepage. Let us face it, you are here to self promote. As for your new sig, well we know it's about plumbing and we know all too well that you are against plumbing unless it is you doing it. So on this forum, you are mostly wasting space.
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'

Just thought I'd update with some positive news, 2nd replacement part arrived today and shower (touch wood) is now working again.

On a general note, I do think it's wise to be cautious about jumping into jobs with both feet, however I also think it's not beyond the layman to attempt things like this as long as a careful and considered approach is taken.

Yes, I am sure there will be times where it all goes wrong but I do feel many jobs are within the reach of the amateur.

I once paid £45 for a shower repair that took literally 2 minutes to do (my kettle was still boiling when he shouted that he was done) and was so simple a child could have swapped the part. I felt ripped off tbh and that's when I decided I could do simple things myself if I researched them first.

    Anyway, all's well etc etc.......:)

Thanks for letting us know it all went well in the end. It's a nightmare when you get faulty parts as I well know myself. Well done OP.
