Mira shower flow valve replacement - do-able myself?

I bought a flow valve replacement for a Mira shower.

It's arrived complete with instructions.

I'm normally a very hands on type and am not usually concerned about having a go at fixing things. I wasn't worried about attempting to replace this myself.

However for some reason, I'm now a bit hesitant about this valve, the instructions seem quite convoluted.

Is it something that is able to be replaced by the layman quite easily and it looks worse than it is, or might I run in to problems I haven't thought of and should get a pro in?

I realise you don't know if I'm a capable sort generally or not so you can't comment on my skills (or lack of), I'm really asking if the job is straightforward enough and could be done by a DIY'er or if this is more a trademan's job?

    Possibly not . . . .

99% of plumbing isn't DIYable - unless it is replacing a washer or the like!

If you are not a 'DIY Diva' you better to call someone in . . .

How much would you DIY your car?
I was going to put the name of my plumbing business here so you know what I do should I give out any advice plumbing wise - however apparently I cant do that - go figure!!!!!

I wouldn't touch my car as I know nothing about it all and I don't have the facilities or the tools to attempt repairs.

However, I have refurbed a house, built partition walls, laid subflooring, added electric sockets and spurs, run cat6 ethernet cable into every room and set up a network, replaced a pressure relief device in a shower and generally am quite capable so DIY is very much me.

It was just this particular job that seemed more involved than I was expecting hence my hesitation.

If a professional can do it, a DIYer at an equivalent level of competence with access to suitable tools could do it

At least 20% of DIYers will be able to do 80% of plumbing

As long as you can isolate the shower circuit without turning off the supply to the rest of the house, you've nothing to lose by 'having a go'.

Well I changed it and I now have other problems. After talking to the company who sent it, it's possible I've been sent a faulty valve so company are sending out another one.

So I get to do this all over again soon.

It did look worse than it was btw, it was actually quite straightforward.

There you go then. It will be even easier the second time. I have always found the instructions from Mira to be quite comprehensive.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

It sounds like you are quite knowledgeable!

I said this because plumbing is much more complex than it might seem on the surface (although there is a certain old git who lives around here who will disagree I am sure!)

You have been lucky and yes sometimes it works out being easy. Often it does not.

Get things wrong in plumbing and you can either do considerable damage to your property or even kill yourself if you are messing with electricity as well!

Effectively you are here self promoting. I don't know what was in your sig, but it seems that the Forum Team removed it. And you have a link to a homepage for your plumbing business in your profile.

It is quite insulting to say that aliasojo was 'lucky'. And gratuitously insulting to another unnamed contributor Your involvement on this thread is a step too far in your apparent campaign to make jobs inaccessible to DIYers. It is quite desirable to point out the hazards of a job or to discourage someone from undertaking a particular task if their level of knowledge is clearly inadequate to avoid injury. It is also fair enough to discourage working on the combustion side of a boiler or on gas. Your statement
    99% of plumbing isn't DIYable
is totally counterproductive - people will DIY but if you discourage them from things like changing an immersion heater on principle, you will just devalue any warning given by helpful people such as southcoastrgi if they advise someone not to touch a gas job.

Please take out your homepage link in your profile and stop throwing cold water on DIY.- if that leaves you no reason to post here, then thank you and goodbye

What ridiculous sweeping statements, there are plenty people that are quite capable of doing their own plumbing jobs, some minor others major.

I am an ex electronics engineer but I have installed radiators, plumbed washing machines and many other plumbing jobs without any problems plus in the past removing car engines, rebuilding gearboxes etc.

Some people are more than capable of DIY you do not have to be an expert, having said that I am always willing to accept advice if necessary.
