Insurance - Does the sun make British drivers crazy?

As the title really, i've thought it for years, but have to wonder if it's regional or if i'm just being over sensitive......

So anyway I was headed to one of my work locations this morning when I came across a chap driving rather slowly down a narrow lane (25 in a 30, so not too bad), it wasn't a problem as we were near the end anyway. I stayed right back and waited, we reached the end of the lane and road opens out nice and wide for the junction, you always get two cars at the end of this junction.... BUT my spidey senses were telling me this guy was trouble, he's looking more at me than the road and he was postioning himself to block the entire junction, so I positioned myself as though turning right until he stopped at the line, THEN I indicated left and moved up next to him, as i'm pulling away he's looking all red faced, spitting bricks and giving me the middle finger. To my mind he's just mad because I tricked him into not blocking the road, I mean it's not like I did anything else. It was like watching a 50yr old child that wasn't allowed a 2nd cookie.

I can only put it down to the warm weather we're having. Apparently turning ordinary people into maniacs. Perhaps fuel is so expensive that they don't use the aircon?

None of us can claim to be a saint, but does your driving attitude change in warm weather? (be honest).

It makes me wonder if insurance premiums are higher when the sun comes out or just at this time of year than any other? realistically it shouldn't, but we all know what insurance companies are like. It'd be interesting to find out...... Could it be that buying a car this time of year sets you up for raised premiums year on year until you eventually buy another?

I'm talking about starting new premiums during the summer months.

The sun means the roof comes down which means you can hear the engine much better and so do possibly spend more time in sports settings and so sharper acceleration etc but not in boy racer terms.

Of cause you need to balance the potential worsening of driver skills with the improvement in road conditions.

Certainly from an insurance perspective the bad weather of winter causes many more accidents than the silly driving of summer.

Perhaps he was on an unfamilar road, didn't realise there was room for two cars alongside each other, then either forgot to indicate to turn left or wasn't sure for a moment, then found you overtaking him in an unexpected or [he thought] aggressive manner just as he was about to pull out to the left.

    It's not a competition.

He will have done it because you will block is view on the left making it more difficult for him to turn right or go straight on.

one thing i have noticed since the sun came out, and thats an increase in traffic, especially during rush hour

i always assumed that there would be less cars in rush hour in the summer due to the better weather, but it seems to be the opposite.

usually when its raining there is more traffic (too many people scared of getting wet) But now the sun is out, its been even worse

Nah, the road we entered has a large central bit, cars turning right block the view, but not vice-versa. I think he saw me come up quickly from behind and despite not getting too close he was just intent on blocking me if I tried to turn left.

There was just something about the car, it was one of those that I would instinctively "stealth overtake" if I needed to get past. I think someone mentioned instinct in another post recently, sometimes you just know the car in front is out for trouble. I could tell the guy was preoccupied by and bothered by having a car behind him.

This road junction is intentionally wide because it's often busy and right turning cars can cause massive tailbacks.

I decided to use positioning to let him think I was going right until he could no longer move and then went left instead, nipping between him and the LH kerb (with PLENTY of room). It's just one of my little tricks for avoiding obstructive drivers.

It's not important anyway, it just happened to be one of a few things that have happened recently, in which people reacted wrongly and massively out of proportion to the situation. Another was a guy (on a dual carriageway) who failed to see the big flashing merge right signs, went metal at people blocking the RH lane and tried to undertake about 20 cars past a school road entrance.

Why would it be more expensive to buy a policy in the summer when the entire year (which includes the summer) is factored into an annual policy.

Yeah, I know that...... But insurance companies are a rule to their own.
