Tunisia??

Planning another holiday this year.

Tunisia seems to be where the misses has her eyes on.

We have been to Bulgaria,Turkey,Zante,Majorca so figured this would do.

Reading really mixed reviews about it.

We are easy going I am 27 and she is 24 if this makes any difference.

Not mad clubbers or anything like this but like to go for a drink at nights and "people watch"...Sad eh

Anyways is it a safe place ect

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

We've just booked our holiday to Tunisia.

I had originally fancied Egypt but with recent events thought better of it.

Anyway, from what I can tell it is perfectly safe, the FCO have no restrictions on Tunisia.

Flight times are rubbishy with most of the holidays left this late.

After many many hours of research (my partner is very fussy), we've decided on the Couples Sousse hotel. It's currently number 1 in Sousse and is an adults only hotel.

We are 28 and 32 if that helps you!

We are looking at the Tej Mehaba or Mehaba beach hotel.
Will look into the Couples one aswell.

Well been doing hours of research and cant decide... As always

GO! We went to sousse in 2009 stayed in Marhaba beach hotel people were brilliant couldnt do anymore for us. Was perfectly safe to go out and about. Do the sahara desert excursion, zulu evening, go see the dream girls i wet my self. Defo going to go back when my wee one and unborn twins are older. Only thing is can be very warm.

What time of year are you going? Summer temperatures can be unbearable it's a better autumn or spring sort of area - although depends what part you're going to.

Not been to Tunisia but it's somewhere we're considering for next year. I can recommend Morocco - beautiful country.

Just been hunting so many variants on reviews for hotels on trip advisor...

I stayed in Hammamet - great beach - also did some trips including one into the Sahara,I can now say been there every time I see Tatooine on Star Wars!!

However one big downside is the constant attempt to sell you something - it was even worse than turkey - we actually got physically pushed into a shop !!1

I went about 10 years ago and alcohol was not banned then, but we had terrible problems buying food during the day. Cafes and bars just didn't open until the evening. We stayed on the edge of Port Kanaoui.

We also did the desert trip which was brilliant.

I've taken lots of holidays in Tunisia first being in 1989, alcohol has never been banned, certainly not in recent times anyway, where did you get that load of tosh from? There are places where you are not allowed to drink alcohol, but that's no different from a lot of non Muslim countries including the good old UK. Tunisia is a secular country and has been since the French handed power back to the Tunisian government lead by Habib Bourguiba in the 1950s so the laws of the country are not made to follow Islamic practices. Tunisia has been producing wine since the Roman times and brews it's own beer and spirits and has done for a long time.

My guess is that you went during Ramadan, in which case, yes some places may be closed during the day, however they will be few and far between and certainly if had gone into Sousse or the port area of Port El Kantaoui you would have found plenty of places to eat, as for bars, hotel bars will be open all day, other than that, there are not that many actual bars and most of these only open at night anyway, this is because most people that go to Tunisia don't go there to get off their head every day, those that do will stay in the hotel and will generally be on an All Inclusive package anyway, so the bars cater for those who want some night life.
