internet access for 02 anywhere in GB?!

Options
Can anyone out there help me please?

A year ago I was daft enough to buy a phone via 'phones for you' I took the contract out on the net.

The network provider was 02, the phone was a Galaxy Ace. Ever since I got the blasted thing, last July, the internet has refused to work WHEREVER I am in the country! The only reason I bought the new phone was to have internet access.

So far, I've had 3 different sim cards, and the phone has been in for repair. (I was actually without a phone for a week until it came back).

I'm desperate to cancel my 2 year contract and am paying £27.00 a month for the equivalent of an ordinary payg. But 02 is adamant THAT IF I DO, I'LL HAVE TO PAY THEM £324.00.

But why should I have to pay them for a service they're not providing and haven't been from the start!

It's taught me a lesson. Is this what happens when you get past 50?

Has anyone had an experience like this?

Any advice would be MOST gratefully received.

Thanks lots:j

Take the phone into any O2 shop and say "fix my Internet", it could be as simple as the APN not set correctly.

Unlikely as it "has been in for repair".

If the phone is really faulty, O2 have nothing do do with it. It's either p4u or Samsung that have to fix or replace it.

Sorry, quite right, I missed "phones for you" in the OP, you would expect most people would realise the retailer is called Phones4U ;).

Into a P4U then, would be my same advice to start.

Have 02 activated INTERNET/DATA on you sim ? 3 sims later its o2 or P4U gave you a faulty handset. have o2 shop check account setting and handset settings - if they cant P4U must under the Sale of Goods Act replace the mobile, the warranty is null and void if P4U try to push you that way - P4U provided a mobile that was not as described, ie "internet capable", under Sale Of Goods Act that is a big error on P4U.

Citizens Advice for help with SOG Act or google it yourself, and make a complaint to P4U chief executive.

Apologies if you have tried this already, but in my experience with third party bought phones, the issue tends to be that the settings to allow internet on the device are incorrect as they are generic ones for all networks so you'll have three, vodafone, O2 etc all in the device, but they may not be the ones you need.

Try going into the menu on the phone > Settings > Wireless and Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names (Or APN) > Delete all of the entries here if it will allow you to.

Next Press the function key on the lower left of the device, this should give you the option to add APN.

    Enter these details:
    Name - o2 mobile web
APN - mobile.o2.co.uk (Ensure the letter o and not number 0 is entered)
Proxy, Port - Please leave blank
    Username - o2web
    Password - password
    Server - Please leave blank
MMSC - http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002 (ensure the letter o and not the number 0 is entered here)
    MMS Proxy - 193.113.200.195
    MMS Port - 8080
    MCC - 234
    MNC - 10
    Authentication type - PAP
APN type - Internet + MMS (If no selection available , leave blank )

Once done press the back arrow once to come out, you should then be able to select these settings, save them. Switch your phone off and then back on and see if that helps.

If not, try if you can your sim in another device, if it works in there you know the phone is the issue, take it in to Phones4U as previously advised, if it does not work, go to .o2.co.uk/guru enter your postcode and book a free appointment at a local store and they will try to fix the problem for you.
  • If it is a handset issue - It is up to P4U

Text 'Active' to 2020 and you will get a text for internet settings. That would be quicker than going into an O2 store.
