This is why I believe you shouldn't start tinkering with these things unless you have some real experience/you are a very competant DIYer . . . .
Yes it was live while he was messing with it!I was going to put the name of my plumbing business here so you know what I do should I give out any advice plumbing wise - however apparently I cant do that - go figure!!!!!

I am and was an electrican before I retired therefore I would consider myself as someone with experience but would agree with the warning about poking about with things.
This morning with hot water all radiators were cold therefore I must have done something moving the lever.
Therefore will see how it goes over the next few days.
Attach photos - boiler was timed on but was not running when I took second photo.

You need to feel the pipes after the valve to see if they heat up.
Call for heat and check.
If not then turn the power off to the valve and move the spindle over manually - then the pipes will start to heat up!I was going to put the name of my plumbing business here so you know what I do should I give out any advice plumbing wise - however apparently I cant do that - go figure!!!!!

Think I must have put it badly in my previous post, as all seems to be as it should be.
I meant to say:
This morning with hot water on, all the radiators were cold just as they should be, therefore I must have done something moving the lever and all is fine.
Therefore will see how it goes over the next few days.
It all seems to be operating as it should for the last two days, when the weather cools a bit will try with the CH on as well and see if all is OK.
Thanks for all your help.
Will report back.0 -
Does that mean you were working live inside the valve head without isolating the electricity first? There are mains voltages inside there!
Could you post some photos of the valve with the head removed and hot water on as well as off.
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:You mean after issuing a warning, take it off again and take picture with it still live eh
If your warning IS heeded, how is he going to operate the valve as you say:rotfl:
Good job OP has some knowledge

Mr Ted - It seems all you do is pick up on threads and add no value. Have you wondered why so many people on here are getting annoyed at your posts (besides all the smileys)!?
We have now established that the OP is competent with electrics and aware of the dangers, so your post is irrelevant.
Do yourself a favour and stick with replying to posts with relevant advice without the sarcasm rather than butting in - because you're gaining a bad reputation on here.If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!

1. Replace cover on actuator the remove actuator (head) from valve body. Some a screwe3d on some just clip on.
2. With all volts ON operate timer and room and tank stat controls to prove actuator is driving valve where it should be when it should be. If it is it will be the valve itself. If its not the either just replace head or if you feel up to it then by all means replace the motor.
3. If head OK operate the valve MANUALLY using suitable tool as lever if required. Is it stiff in places? Can you free it up? If its gunged up (this preventing the actuator doing what it should be) and you can't free it by just turning it by hand then a new valve body will be needed.
3. requires a drain down to below the level of the valve. 2 does not and hence is first although second.

Is this quite common on here Myser?
I have only been on here a week but there seems to be no shortage of 'nelly know it alls' butting into posts, being rude and insighting a riot!!!!!
A few bad apples seem to be spoiling what could be quite a nice forum . . . . . . . .I was going to put the name of my plumbing business here so you know what I do should I give out any advice plumbing wise - however apparently I cant do that - go figure!!!!!

Might just be a sticky valve - it happens sometimes particularly when you have the system off for a while . . . .I was going to put the name of my plumbing business here so you know what I do should I give out any advice plumbing wise - however apparently I cant do that - go figure!!!!!

Re your sig. Advertising isn't permitted here and neither is touting for business. Poster's will soon understand what you do for a living and make their own judgements as to the quality of your advice.
Forums are a notorious medium for "shooting from the hip" without thinking it all through completely. I've done it here, you will do it here.
Your last sentence is provocative. You may not have meant it to be but it is.
