Any ideas where to get best price for bits to enable a roof box, apart from halfords? I looked on ebay, but am confused by the options. I am not exactly sure what I need to buy.
The car has nothing factory fitted at all on the roof. Its a Rover saloon .

I've bought from http://roofbox.co.uk and thought they were good value. Look at their 'package deals' were you get the box, bars and adapters.

roof rack can be fitted on most cars, just google search for your model of car and roof rack.

My golf has tangs for roof racks to fit onto hidden behind some loose rubber seals.

Rover Saloon narrows it down to about 300 vehicles.

    Channels in the roof? Gutters?

    Halfords are expensive.

Thanks everyone- its a 2002/3 75 ctdi connisieur.

I looked at halfords thule set bars thru quidco, giving money off and cashback, comes to £145 , to add the box, Halfords didnt have the cheaper 2 offered boxes in stock.

so, more googling..its tricky! theres confusing talk about adaptors which I dont understand.

I would recommend these as well, used them a few times and have had excellent service.

another vote for roofbox.co.uk, I have used them many times, good service and often best prices

just put your car details in to roofbox and the cheapest thule set comes to £134, looks like they fit on the gutter, it is quite clear on their site as everything is ticked ready for you to order.

    the box is extra

The adapters are for the feet or clamps that the standard bars use.

Instead of having one kit for every car. They sell the bars in set sizes. Then sell the feet or fixing pack to suit your car. Whether it clamps of gutters or in the door aperature.

If you swap cars you only need the foot / fixing pack to use them again.
