Hi
I know I have left it late but we are going to crete mid august. Trying to figure out which is best, hire a car (Neither of us have driven abroad before!!!) or use the holidaytaxis.com site for shuttle transfer. Has anybody else used this to book transfers? Web site doesn't seem to want me to go past putting in the resort details so not sure if it's worth giving them a ring or not!!
Help please

Holiday Taxis is usually quite expensive, and use the same local agents as everyone else. Try https://www.clicktransfers.com or https://www.resorthoppa.com
In regards to a hire car, they can be a real asset if you wan to go explore the island on your terms throughout the week. I prefer to take a shuttle as I don't like driving straight after flying, then get a car for a few days in the resort, but it's all personal preference.0 -
I do work for Holiday Taxis but I have to say although they can be slightly more expensive they are very reliable and have won travel awards. I just tried using the Crete page and it appears to be working for me but I don't know your resort, if you are having problems then feel free to call or email them.
As to hiring a car I think its best to get it after you have arrived and settled in so maybe get a transfer or public transport on the day you arrive just to get to where you're staying so you can unload and sort yourself out and then hire a car locally to explore with the rest of the trip.
Obviously public transport will be the cheapest but not quite as free to travel when and where you want. But if you are competent on foreign transport systems then it is definitely a great alternative to see the country as you travel and experience the place and people.0 -

A quick bump to say the difference in price between holidaystaxis and clicktransfers was huge - return private taxi from Sharm El Sheikh airport to and from the hotel was £25.95 v £14.40, not quite, but almost double.0
