So long as you don't knock the computer against anything or drop it. It will be exactly the same or it will have a hardware problem. It won't change your settings etc."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

If you do have problems when you plug it all in back together, you may need to open up the case to make sure you've not disconnected a card.. a good example would be if your PC starts but the screen is blank, you graphics card may have been dislodged.
Don't drop it.. hard disks don't like that much. Remember to turn the power off when pulling out cables and reassembling0 -
Welcome to another "thick" person. My computer WAS upstairs and worked fine for years both dial-up & broadband. I decided to change ISP to Talktalk, WOW!, major intermittant connection issues. TT said it was because I had such a long legth of adsl cable and wouldn't consider doing anything untill I brought the system downstairs and connected directly into the old BT box. I did and it did work.
I'm telling you this because you are about to do the relocation in the opposite direction. Yes I know you aim to go wireless, but if you make a last minute decision to retain cable, you too might experience connection issues.
On the subect of appearing thick. I defy anyone to enter any forum and you will see posts starting, "I know I'm thick but......etc". I should know, I reckon I invented the phrase.
I've just read on another forum where someone was ranting & raving because people post questions that have been asked many times before instead of doing a forum search. In a perfect world we would. But hey, we don't live in a perfect world and untill we do, there WILL be people that appear thick, but we're not, we are all on a learning curve, aiming to reach perfection, some have a lot further to go.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. That was the reason i asked, was not sure whether i would encounter any problems. I always find its better to ask first than charge in & find out the job has gone tits up.if i had known then what i know now0 -
I am a PC Tech' at a local secondary school. A tip, to prevent something that can cause all sorts of panic with DIY PC moves.
Make a note of which USB plug goes into which socket. If you switch them around, the system will work, but can take a worryingly long time to re-detect and re-install each piece of hardware. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.

Look, let me tell you one of the basics I learnt and really if I say it's as easy as ABC that's exactly what it is.
Whether it be the cables that enter and leave the TV/Video/Freeview or DVD player, once everything was working, I cut out small pieces of paper and wrote on each, A/B/C etc and dupilicated them all. I then sellotaped each cable end with a letter and attached the other to whichever machine it entered.
I followed this procedure with my tower/printer/screen/scanner/keyboard etc.
Having moved house twice, moved the computer downstairs, the telly has gone giddy from various lounge locations, having all these items labeled, has been a godsend.
Recently for no reason at all, my computer lost connection. It seems all I have to do whilst the power is on, is to remove the plug and cause it to re-boot. I don't know why it does it or why this procedure corrects it, nor do I know if anyone else experiences it.
What I do know is I daren't ask on this board, just in case I too am labeled "thick". Hang on NO, I will ask, why does that happen?. You never know, maybe someone else will learn something, after all, that's what it's all about isn't it?.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. How do you connect to the internet, router (wireless/wired) or modem, BT socket (ADSL) or cable?
It may be the IP address is lost and needs to be restored.0 -
I can vouch for plugging your USB devices back into the same sockets.
One of my USB devices needs uninstalling and reinstalling if it gets moved. :rolleyes:0 -
