A router.............
next time you lose connection try
START - RUN - CMD
in black screen enter "ipconfig /release"
then enter "ipconfig /renew"
Above might solve the problem if your router (on wireless) is not suffering from interference. IP address conflict is a possible cause of this if other computers are joining the network while the PC is in standby, if so, the LAN settings need to be adjusted.
If (using wireless) you "see" other networks in the wireless networks available you can try changing channels on the router.
There may be other causes, such as connection timeout on the router, you can set this for "always connect".0 -
Before you move it take a couple of pictures of the back of your PC showing all the ports and cables. It makes it a lot easier to plug things back in when you have a photo to refer to.
From your original post it would seem you don't currently have wireless. My advice would be to set up and test all of the wireless kit with your PC where it is now so if you have problems you can easily revert to the wired solution. then you will be able to ask on here for advice. Once it is working wirelessly you can move it upstairs. It's my problem, it's my problem

I can vouch for plugging your USB devices back into the same sockets.
One of my USB devices needs uninstalling and reinstalling if it gets
moved.
I get loads of calls because of teachers doing DIY PC moves. I just say "OK, hang on a minute", sit back and wait for everything to reinstall itself, and then take all the credit!

Maybe you should join the site below instead then and leave MSE to those who want to help each other.

I don't see how discouraging a member from the site altogether, for let's face it a minor one-off infraction, is any more constructive. The OP set the tone by being self depracating and mescharano fell into that trap by incorrectly responding in that same perceived tone just as I'd expect many with less forum posting experience to. I know I've certainly made my share of faux-pas with forum posts. It was I'm sure not done with malicious intent and would probably have not have happened if the OP hadn't put the proposition in the subject line in the first place.
It's probably ironic that some of the responses aimed at mescharano have been equally unconstructive and in my opinion not adhering to the "be nice to other members" rule either."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
