Well done on the ebay sales, why don't you split the money 50/50 between savings and OP pot. Sounds like you are going to have a busy weekend :)

  • Evening folks
It's been ages since I updated my diary, just been so busy :o. On the mortgage front have managed to a pay £1062 off the mortgage since July. Slowing getting it down but want to do much better. Hubby and I have been talking about getting the mortgage down again this weekend and we're going to try and pay an extra £50 a week each into the op pot. I'd love to be mortgage free in 2 years, but we'll just have pay off what we can. Hope everyone else's mortgage free journey is going well. I'll try and catch up with your diaries. Xxx

  • New Year, New me! It's been a long time, but I've found my old MFW diary and I'm back :j .I've joined the not buying it in 2015 thread in OS, so hoping that will help me curb my spending and generally keep my eye on the ball. As usual it's food shopping that's always our downfall mainly due to time constraints and lack of organisation. I need to make a conscious effort to rectify this in 2015.

It was really lovely to read through my old diary, I don't keep a diary anywhere else so it was interesting to look back at what was happening in 2013. Some things have changed drastically and some are still the same. 2014 was a year of mixed blessings. Mum became very ill in Dec 2013 and we lost her 1st March 2014. So the beginning of the year consisted of numerous hospital visits and general nastiness. Looking on the bright side though, these sad circumstances did put me back in contact with my aunt, uncle and cousins and we've all become close this past year and now they are a big part in our lives.

On the work front, we're both still in our poorly paid jobs, with DH working all hours and he is still hanging in there for redundancy. But I made a decision in 2014 to retrain so I started an OU Access course in Oct, due to finish in April and then I'm hoping on to start my degree in Oct . I'm also nearly finished my NVQ2 in childcare so hopefully something good on the job front may happen this year.

Anyway I'm waffling :p, so this is my diary folks hopefully you'll join me on my new mission to get this mortgage gone, with plenty of cups of tea and giggles on the way.

Happy New Year one and all!

It's that time of year again, when I dust off my old MFW diary and review the past year and consider the next. If nobody reads this, that's fine, but it's nice to have a diary to look back at myself to see how things have changed over the years.

In paying off the mortgage early terms, 2015 was a complete wash out, not one single overpayment was made. This was due to mainly to the fact that any spare money of which there was very little, went into the complete Renovation of the lounge, which still isn't quite finished yet. DH is still in his sh@t poorly paid job and is doing private jobs to make ends meet. I'm still in my OK but also poorly paid job, but did at least have a payrise this year, so at least I'm on the living wage now.

On a personal front, 2015 was the year I finished my NVQ and OU Access course and started my OU degree in History. So great inroads have been made to better myself. The OU degree journey will be tough but I'm determined to see it through to the end.

As I'm sat writing this I'm contemplating the year ahead, as you do on New Year's Eve 😉. My first task for the year other than my next dreaded assignment, is to start applying the Konmari method of decluttering and organizing into our home. This should not only make the house feel less cluttered, but also my mind which should make me feel more energised to tackle other tasks. By applying this method to our home I hope to make a little bit of money which will go into an emergency fund. I've managed to accrue some debt this year which needs to be gone ASAP so will also be chipping away at that. The only good thing where the debt is concerned is that I've managed to switch it to a 0% interest card which will give me a bit of breathing space. There's lots I want to achieve this year, getting rid of debt and getting the mortgage paid off sooner, being at the top of the list, so here's hoping that 2016 will be the year we really start living. :j

  • Morning folks, feeling quite positive looking at the mortgage this morning. After this months payment went out on the 1/1/16 our mortgage is now under the £20k threshold at £19,944.19. Starting to feel the end is in site. :j

Having a massive clear out and applying the KonMari method to our home and trying to live a more minimalist lifestyle. Got rid of 5 large bin bags of just my clothes at the weekend, and 2 boxes of Xmas Decs. Some of which will be being sold and the pennies going in the pot. Money is a juggling act at the moment between trying to save an emergency fund, the house needing money spent on it, and paying off my 0% cc debt. But we will keep trudging away and hopefully make progress little by little. :)
