over what?We are just about to have floor down got 1/2" ply and then screwed down...

Tiling direct onto plasterboard is fine as long as you tank it where it could get rather wet - like round the shower area. If its tanked it won't get wet. If if doesn't get wet it won't disintegrate due to, umm, having got wet.Really you shouldn't be tiling onto plasterboard at all, you should use a cement based backing board that won't disintegrate when it gets wet.
