I've found a HUGE Tesco/Visa Scam - what should I do now?

Although I too am curious, I hardly think KittyKate will post a link which will allow any passing card thief who just happens to be reading this thread an open invitation to loot peoples bank accounts.
Naturally, I can't post the site - though sadly most if not all of that list will have had money stolen from them. I can't even post a segment of it - googling the phrases will also bring the site up.
All I can say is; it's a forum conversation on a site based in Afghanistan, most of which is in Hindi (I used Google's translating tool to read the non-English parts).
The actual section of the site is called something like 'Visa Hacked Numbers' and the poster posts regular lists of users details (in English). My friend found this by googling my email addy - I suggest you all do the same to ensure you don't come up on any dodgy lists.
As for the troll - ignore him. I don't have a virus and many of the users emails were .gov, .mod - ie, locked down government PCs. I'm not saying you can't get a virus or keylogger but to me the format of the information looks like it has been pulled from a database - most importantly, each card number has a TRANSACTION number attached also - I ONLY use that card for Tesco, so make your own minds up who is being careless with information (since I don't see the transaction numbers Visa supply Tesco with - only my customer order number, which is different.)
Will call the police on my (late) lunch and let you all know how it goes.0 -
most definitely supply the details of this site/forum to the police. best way to stop the frauds from being committed0

OK for anyone who is reading - I did call the police, who referred it to trading standards (as it's related to a specific company as far as they/I can see) who will then report it back to the police (silly eh!?)
I gave them all the information I could and got a reference number, they thanked me and said that people don't always report this sort of thing as long as they get their money back - but often it is the bank refunding it, and the money is actually going to the conmen and funding god-knows-what. If this man can be caught and stopped it might save £150,000 worth of fraud a month (based on 150 stolen details a month and an average of £1000 stolen from each - my dad's was actually £1400).
So, outcome is that I am pleased as I didn't want to be the person who finds something dodgy and doesn't report it. Thanks all0 -
keep us updated this is a scary tale!0

But since you've spat your dummy out read the following .
I just cant see an Afghan who cant even read English, walking into a secure interent cafe parking his goat and cow outside and then commiting a spot of ID Fraud from Tesco.
Secondly I didnt say OUR military did this did I? How many foreign military sources are there in Afghanistan......you tell me since you were there.
Since you have recent working knowledge of telecommunications of Afghanistan can you tell me who installed it there?.....questions....or is it TOP SECRET!
Yeah, he'll probably have to shoot you after he tells you :rolleyes:0 -
dangeroussports wrote: »Afghanistan....interesting. I think its scarey but Afghanistan doesnt have telecommunications to deal with ID fraud/broadband or any means to use the fraud card in Afghanistan.
Sounds like someone in the military is making use of this.....
Call the police.
Are you serious? You seem to have been fooled by the media's representation of Afghanistan - with reporters standing with desert in the background?
Here's some pictures of Kabul for you:

Doesn't look much different from any other city, does it?
To the original poster - I suspect that your computer has been compromised rather than Tesco.0 -
Why does our media make us believe that all those sand dwelling people are not interested in Western lifestyle and should be bombed?

In any event Im sure the "coalition of the killing" will turn it into rubble fast.0
