G24 - possible issue?

Hi

G24 control Cineworld Cinemas car park in Wakefield. Inside the Cinema is a sign which says that if you park before 11am, you have 3 hours free, or 6 hours free after 11am. But if you are staying longer, to tell a member of staff. I went there today and told them I was staying longer and they had a Register. I just had to put my Registration down and they tell G24...

Apparently this sign has been there for ages.

Bu...a few month back, I went to the cinema and didn't tell them that I would be there longer than the alloted time.

I subsequently received a letter with pictures from G24. I am the registered owner and i was driving.

I looked on here at the time, and the common thought was "just ignore" which I have done.

We're now about 3 letters in and the latest one is from CCS Collect asking now for £95 but if paid before 9th July it can be paid at a rate of £47.50.

What I am asking is, am I still 100% OK to ignore the letters or does the fact that the cinema has a register etc cause problems?

If it helps too...I do still have the tickets for the two films I watched on the day I was caught...but I ain't sure whether it's worth a call to G24/CCSCollect to explain or whether it's one just to continue to ignore.

From now on, I will be putting my name on the Register when I do a double-cinema run! Haha. Can't be arsed with all the letters.

No it is not 100% ok to ignore as there is a chance that you will get a set of court papers. However, there isn't anything you can do except pay or ignore for the time being as you are out of POPLA time.

Unless, of course, as Registered Keeper you were not the driver. In that case we can probably resurrect POPLA.

G24 - not sure if they are currently issuing court papers or not. Someone will advise.

Could do with knowing really as obviously I need to get it either paid, or have my mind at rest to ignore

You ask "What I am asking is, am I still 100% OK to ignore the letters or does the fact that the cinema has a register etc cause problems?"

In all fairness, how could anyone on here know the answer to that?

You have seen - or should have - lots of the POPLA appeals that regulars here have knocked up. The arguments on these could be used for court as well as most cases against PPCs are won on their authority to charge, having contracts, charges not being true pre-estimates of cost, signage, paperwork, not keeping to POFA timescales, but almost none won on any mitigation points.

Nothing is guaranteed in this world so if you want absolute peace of mind with nothing hanging in the air, pay the reduced sum.

Would I do that?? Not on your life.

G24 are one of my favourite corrupt scammers from the perspective they're very incompetent.

I'm 99% sure they have never done court. Given you're now at the CCS Collect stage ( an even bigger bunch of goons than G24 ) I'd suggest you continue to ignore as you're nearly at the end. IF, and it's a very BIG if, you get genuine court papers come back here to build your defence.

The last letter was on 25th June, saying that if I pay before 9th July it'll only be half price.

I was just thinking that the whole register with the cinema thing is something I hadn't seen before. They said they just let the parking company know people who have stayed longer than the allotted time

If G24 thought they had a case why do you think they've suddenly halved what they're asking for rather than taking you to court for the full amount ? I'll tell you why - they're a bunch of lying scammers.

Is it really that obvious ? ;)

In signing a register, does that reduce any losses the landowner has suffered?

Not likely, just because you forgot to sign a piece of paper saying you were staying longer doesn't change that the landowner suffered no losses.
