Mine is the mottled green-pearl type granite. Doesn't show watermarks at all. I'd second the upstand recommendation.Debbie0

We've just had granite worktops with splashbacks fitted, black with a grey fleck (Nero Impala I think), and it looks fabulous. The fitters told us that it can take almost anything. He only warned us about acidic stuff like lemon juice and red wine however we were given a load of samples to try out and NOTHING touched it. Not even when the wine/lemon juice/ketchup/coffee was left to dry and bake in the sunlight for three days!I would if I could but I can't so I won't!0

I love my granite. Shiny black with mottles. Used it for 2 1/2 years now and as good as new. I just wipe and spray with granite polish (lakeland limited) every few weeks. No marks at all0

I think getting granite worktops was the best investment ever, they always look great and as long as you treat them with the right products every so often(I only need to do this every couple of months) they look brand new.I have pale blue pearl granite and apart from a couple of watermarks nothing shows up.0

have posted this on another granite section
Just to help you all hopefully
Granite is a metamorphic stone. it has a mohs scale of hardnes of 8. to give you and idea of where this falls steel is 7 dianond is 10 ans chalk is 1
Its mineral composits are not acid sensitive so any acids spilt on to the stone will not etch the stone.
Basalt has a very similar look to granite and has been sold as granite effect but basalt is acid sensitive and you can get light surface ethching(white marks)
Marble is 50% calcium carbonate and is highly acid sensitive, and can be etched easily.
With regards to the stains in the granite you could use a product called aquamix poultice to draw out the stain. I would then seal with their ultra solve sealer.... this will stop the water marks...
just type in aquamix into google and you will find a distibutor called trades direct, they are the cheapest i have found....
hope this helps...

I have shiny black granite worktops and they are a nightmare!
Every speck shows, especially if you have a sunny kitchen. OK if you live alone and are happy to wipe them 10 times a day but if you have teenagers in the house who make sandwiches it's like having black carpets and a white fluffy dog.
They look great in showhouses but paler mottled colours are so much easier to live with.0 -

Upstands are the bits that sit at the back of the worktop and go up the wall slightly... bit like tiles (or glass or stainless steel etc) would do... here is a pic so it might make more sense:

Ah, thank you. I can't imagine what the point of them is, but I'm sure there is one
. We have tiles in our kitchen - how dreadfully old-fashioned
:rotfl: .
