Hi all,
Was wandering if anyone can help me. We are going to buy a new kitchen and I quite fancy the shiny granite worktops, has anyone had any experience because I've heard they leave marks, scratches etc. Any advice appreciated.
thanks

i think they do show up watermarks etc
how about using wood , as long as you treat it with oil every now and then it should be ok , plus it's from a sustainable source .
if you do want granite i have seen a mottled effect one that was not smooth and polished , i don't think it would show any marks0 -
You certainly can't use any abrasive cleaners or scourers on them.Total Original Debt: £30404.24

I have them. They're invincible. I chop on mine and treat them very badly, yet 4 years later they look like brand new.
I have shiny black - looks fantastic.de do-do-do, de dar-dar-dar0 -
we got shiny gloss marble effect black worktops, was told they would scratch also but very happy with them0

I have shiny black granite with gold flecks, they look fabulous when they have just been cleaned, but they show every mark and splashOfficial DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0

I have black and they clean up pretty well ........homebase do a cleaner for stone surfaces and i find I only have to use it every few days , with just a normal wipe down in between
However i also have black granite shiney ( in theory lol ) floor tiles , they are a nightmare !!!!!!!!!!!!0 -
I have absolute black granite and would recommend it every time. You can put hot pans straight out of the oven onto them and not worry. Having had wood in the past, I would NEVER have it again.
I wipe my granite with soapy cloth and then use one of those microfibre cloths to dry, that leaves no water mark.
I can recommend http://ukaffordablegranite.com/0 -

Hi, Im looking to replace my wooden work tops with shiney black granite, Im very worried about water marks scratches - Will i need to keep polishing as Im very house proud & finger marks and smears will drive me crazy. ???0

I have had mine for 2 years now. Yes, watermarks do show up but with the right cleaning process these go away and they look as shiny / new. Go for black and I would personally avoid black with too much 'jewel' gold bits!
Also another recommendation which I regret is to get upstands. This really finsishes off the look for granite worktops
hope this helps0
