I think the gift is nice. When we moved house, our new neighbours brought us a gift :D Neighbours are quite close here, where we lived before the houses were relatively spaced. It set a nice tone, we give each other wine/chocs at Christmas and sign for each other's parcels a lot.

If you want to gift then go for it, stops any awkwardness confronting and saying hi anyway, with a gift or not!

Then fact that you have now bought the house and the only one for sale on the road is now his means he is now in a stronger position!!!
Just say Hello when you move in and if you want to give a small gift that is your decision.
He may well be moving himself in 3/6 months

Did you offer £7k less on his or similar? (I'm allowing £3k for the cost of a new bathroom!).
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

We didnt offer at all on his house, tbh we bought our house for less than £100k so trying to get him to reduce that much would be too much to ask for.

I won't offer a small gift then, but will knock to say hello.

I moved in to my house a few years back and had a lot of renovation work to do, I informed my neighbour in advance and then once it was finished I took a small plant round to apologise for the noise - she was in all day as was house bound, I just thought it was a nice gesture.

We were on the receiving end of this lately and it was a really lovely surprise. Not at all necessary or expected, but a really nice treat nonetheless.

Yes - its a nice gesture when there is alot of noise. Not just for the noise of moving in though.

The guys probably had many parties looking around over time, I doubt he feels offended every time a viewer doesn't go ahead and buy it! This is just the nature of the game

How do you know that the neighbour will recognise you?

When we bought our current house we looked at one 3 doors down and the same as you opted for the cheaper one basically because we could "put our stamp on it" rather than have someone elses choices....

I think we may even have put a cheeky offer in that was also rejected by them.

We never mentioned to the neighbours that we had viewed their house and they never seemed to recognise us...or at least were too polite to mention it!
