Help me with my smelly loo!!

Due to 10 year old DS frequently missing the loo over the years (because he doesn't concentrate when going) my tiny toilet stinks. I've tried everything I can think of on the floor but the smell remains, fresh air doesn't work, bleach, no amount of mopping has helped, anyone any ideas on how to neutralise the smell?

What's under it ?
We have resorted before to taking the pan off and cleaning under it. Maybe bicarb left on around base if that is where smell is coming from for a while then mopped away ? I usually use an old toothbrush to clean around the base of the pan. Vinegars another one good for neutralising wee smells. One day I might be more organised...........

how about trying a small dish of bicarb?
just place it somewhere near the toilet and it should hopefully absorb the bad odours.......it works in a fridge and in smelly trainers, so hopefully this should work!0 -
frenchconnection - I have the same problem with my 7 year old son! Flippin' irritating to dash into the loo and find your socks suddenly wet (yuck!). I also have a problem with the smell and haven't found a way to get rid of it yet.0

I have a body language/human behaviour book and there's a whole chapter on why males miss the loo. The author's suggest re-training them to sit while they pee, if at all possible. Or they suggest getting a urinal - yeah, right. In my bathroom?! If he's short, a stool might help, for him to stand on.
Sorry, that doesn't help with the smell problem does it? Sounds to me, though, like there may be something beneath the floor covering that's retaining it.spendy/she/her ***DEBT-FREE DATE: 11 NOVEMBER 2022!*** Highest debt: £35k (2006) MY WINS: £3,541 CASH; £149 Specsavers voucher; free eye test; goody bag from Scottish Book Trust; tickets to Grand Designs Live; 2-year access to Feel Amazing App (worth £100); Home Improvement & Renovation Show tickets; £50 to spend on chocolate; Harlem Globetrotters tickets; Jesus Christ Superstar tickets + 2 t-shirts; Guardians of the Galaxy goody bag; Birmingham City v Barnsley FC tickets; Marillion tickets; Dancing on Ice tickets; Barnsley FC v Millwall tickets0 -
Forgot to add, when we refitted the vinyl flooring this time we put it under the pan, sealant around it, previously had cut round it and misses ended up going under and into the floorboards! Find it much easier to keep smelling nice now.One day I might be more organised...........

After a short while in our house I wanted the bathroom refitted. It had ceramic tiles on the floor but they had tiled to the toilet and not under it. I had noticed a horrible urine smell and was blaming my three boys before the work was done. When the room was cleared it turned out that the floorboards were soaked through and the beam was affected too! Too much damage to be done by my boys! I apologised to my sons and made sure that the tiles went under the toilet and then I used white sealant around the base to make sure that no spills seeped under the toilet again!I would if I could but I can't so I won't!0

Forgot to say I found that Zolflora applied neat to the floor helped to clear up the smell for short periods.I would if I could but I can't so I won't!0

Use a loo brush to send most of the water round the U bend- Dry the area normally cover with water.
Clean area below usual water line with nail varnish remover to get rid of any residue.
Using an indelible marker or black nail varnish draw a fly about an inch below where the water usually sits.
Apparently having something for the boys in your life to aim at cuts down on the spillages.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

That last sentence rings true - we keep getting sent flyers at school to purchase pictures of targets to stick inside the boys' loos! haven't done so yet, but the cleaner has a really hard job with the smell in there!Resolution:

The target thing sounds like a great idea.
Also, what about getting your son involved in cleaning it up and trying to get rid of the smell? I know he's only 10, but he should learn the consequences of his inattention!0
