  • What can you cook with chickpeas as a main meal? I've used them cold in salads and to make houmous, but I'm not sure what to do with them in a hot main meal.

I've started to make soups for lunch at work - can you make soups with chickpeas?

I bought a few kilos of chickpeas when Tescos had them reduced to 50p and I had a voucher for £5 off a £30 spend - it seemed like a good idea at the time

I'd be grateful for any help.

I throw a handful of them into curries or casseroles and they have always tasted nice.

    Hope this helps

  • Chickpea Curry springs to mind - must be lots of recipes if you google it.
  • Yeah you can put them in soups etc.

You can also make them into burgers - cook them, mash/whizz them adding herbs/seasoning, make into burger shape and fry.

  • Thanks everyone for such speedy responses. I've googled chick pea soup and there's a great Moroccan recipe on the BBC website - it's got lemon juice in it to, that'll be the first time I put that in a soup!

I like the idea of chickpea curry too... I need to get onto more websites for recipes... the simpler the better.

Thanks for everyone's help... keep the ideas coming!

  • We often have chick pea curry or bolognaise. I just use them instead of quorn for a change. They are lovely added to soup.

  • What about a vegetable lasagne, or pasta bake, hot-pot? I also have a good recipe for a Chick-pea roast which is a chick-pea stuffing with a pastry case.

    Any help?
