Trying to view a house

and failing!

House appeared on Rightmove last Saturday with no photos, but in the right area and the right price. I called up first thing and the agent took all my details and was going to call back with a viewing time.

I didn't receive a call back.

Today the house has been relisted on Rightmove with pictures so I called up and spoke to a different person. They apologised profusely for the other agent not calling back and took my details again, and again failed to call back. I told the agent I wanted to view the property this afternoon and they didn't think it would be a problem. Tried to call back before closing time but it appears as though they went home early.

Is there any reason that an agent would not want someone to have a viewing on a property? I'm getting really frustrated with this behaviour (seems to be really common round my way).

Its a probate sale and no one lives there (the agent has the keys)

Is it a bit of a wreck?

I ask because I had to convince an agent to let me view a house that was a complete tip as he thought only developers would be interested I think. Might be something like that.

If not I'd still put a note through the door. I assume someone is coming round to collect post etc and they might want to know that their agent is not following up with potential buyers.

You my find it is eventually sold to a developer with some connection to the EA. I've known it happen.

keep ringing them? (the same day)

don't hang up until they have offered you a viewing?

sounds like there's some shenanigans going on.

Wouldnt be surprised , when we had our place market valued (probabt , Grandma`s) one of them , a big player in the town ,valued it a good 60k less than the other two , basically it was priced to be nudged towards their builder mates , thankfully we hadnt just come down with the last shower and after 9 weeks received an offer 65k more than their estimate

Its not a wreck but it needs updating, plenty of scope for extension so that may be whats causing them to play games.

Can you go into the estate agent's branch and sit and wait while they arrange a viewing? They're less likely to fob you off face to face.

See if you can trace the owners via land registry. Obviously they are dead but it may give you a clue to the family who are selling.
