  • Hi All
I've tried to get a boiler using EON and have had the tech survey done by Dyson , I have a Vaillant boiler (turbomax 828) on its last legs and would prefer another Vaillant rather then an ideal logic. , Dyson have now written and said an upgrade to a Vaillant Ecotec 831 will cost me £563. Is this ok or am I being gullible?

I asked for an upgrade from an Ideal Logic to a Logic plus with 7 year warranty and paid extra, I have had a new scale reducer, TF1 filter, and Digital room programmer and chemical flush and inhibitor put in.

I would think the installers are supplied the boilers at a special discount price and any variations will need to reflect this.

My boiler was installed through EON by tidy friendly Dyson fitters and all contact with Dyson when I have asked for specific days and times have been excellent.

    Ideal Logic
    Vaillant 831
These prices obviously vary between shops,
The bottom line is you can have a basic model for free or pay extra for the boiler you want and just know you have it at a really good price.:)

I'd say try another energy supplier as Scottish & Southern were offering an Ideal Logic and I just got a Valiant from British Gas. Neither asked me for any extra money. I actually asked Scottish & Southern if I could add funds to the job so I got a different boiler and it wasn't allowed. When I talked to the Energy Saving Advice Trust (or whatever the name is) they said it was OK to try with as many energy suppliers as I liked and I could choose which to go with when I found out the make and model of boiler.

I'm surprised how many people on here were asked for extra money. And the huge sums requested. Definitely worth asking another energy supplier; start with a call to the Energy Saving Advice line and not straight to the energy supplier. More impartial and there's a central place monitoring your application then. Good luck!
  • Hi. My boiler has been broken for a few weeks brrrrr (have borrowed plug in heaters to avoid frostbite) and I noticed through googling and finding this site about free boilers. I do qualify as far as I can tell and had my local plumbing firm out - spent an hour filling in forms and giving them copies of my mortgage, child and working tax credit awards ... but they have phoned back today to say the free boiler scheme has stopped running until October as the scheme has run out of money. Does anyone know if this is correct?
I've just phoned the energy advice saving line and the lady there didn't know and just passed a referral onto Scottish power which will take weeks.

My boiler was fitted in January and I don't think anyone here has mentioned the scheme having an end date so I think the plumbing firm were mistaken. (Neighbours have told me they are having a boiler installed this month too.) Well done for calling the Energy Advice Saving line as that's the best route. You'll get a call from Scottish Power within a few weeks and then a surveyor home appt to see the paperwork and assess your home within a few weeks after that and then you'll get an installation date. It could take a long time or it could all be done within a month.

We have to remind ourselves that this is not an emergency heating scheme so they don't have to treat people with a broken boiler any quicker than those with a working but inefficient system. But, long-term, this will work out for you, hopefully. Good luck.
  • Hi: The boiler schemes are ok in principle, but in my case, although I qualify, the boiler I had originally fitted by the warmfront scheme 4years ago has broken down probably due to being installed in a cold place, and I have been told that it is beyond economical repair having a lot of problems and leaking. However, I have been told that the boiler (dispite having no hot water or heat since before christmas) is too efficient? and I am not eligible for a new boiler under the new schemes.

The scheme was to spend 3.2bn originally until 2015 and is now until 2017 so the funding has slowed down because the same amount of money over a longer period of time.

No funding is available until April, because some much of the budget was spent last year.

Companies will still offer the grant if they can afford to not be paid until Arpil so you may be able to find another local company on Green deal participants register.

So will be worth phoning around.

That's the old scheme which installed cheap boilers that don't last. There are requirements on this new grant which mean installers have to use good quality boilers.

  • Last Friday at just after 2PM I was phoned by Carillion energy services, who do the free boiler service for Scottish and Southern, to tell me that the boiler that was to fitted today 11th Feb, Has Been Canceled. They told me that Scottish and Southern had just told them that the free boiler scheme had been stopped, and gave me a phone number to wring 08009752852. Rang them on Fri about 3pm and was told that they did not know what was going on, but would ring me back. I rang them on Mon and told just about the same thing but added that as far as he knew the scheme had not been canceled.
So Tues the boiler fitting day, So the fitter didn't arrive (there was a hope). So did the same again Carillion I told them what I had been told on Mon, they said the scheme was deferential canceled. So rang Scottish and Southern and was told by them that what Carillion told me seemed to be correct. So as far as I can see the FREE BOILER scheme as far as Scottish and Southern is DEAD.

I would like to Know if the rest have stopped it the same
  • As I said above, the scheme has not been scrapped they have just slowed down the funding. Go on Green deal participants register and call a couple of local installers and one of them will be able to do it.
