This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Morning all
    Silly o'clock here & I can't sleep, TFI Friday.
I wonder what today will bring at work, if it's another day like yesterday I'll be fit only for the funny farm.
I'm sick to the back teeth of the teacher who snaps her fingers at me because I don't jump quickly enough to do her bidding, I'm sick of our network not working, still 3 more weeks, I can last that long can't I!
Hugs to Molly, Hilly & LW. Glad you had a good time JackieO.
Saturday morning I have DGD1 visiting from 8 'til 1, I'll collect her when I drop hubby at work. I asked what she's like to do & she said arts & crafts, so I think we'll do collage. I've scrounged a couple of posh magazines from a friend & I have scissors & glue. I'll take her home when I go to collect hubby from work & I'll swap her for her brother for a few hours and he can do a bit of gardening with hubby and cooking or whatever else he wants to do, he also want's his Tarot cards read. Sunday we'll have DGD2 but just for a short visit as this will be the first time she's visited just for fun & not as a babysit.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

  • Good morning everyone :)

It looks like we are set for a beautiful day here and the weekend looks great. DH is up to his eyes in marking with first target set for today so I think I will be an exam widow this weekend. Lots of gardening, washing and car booting may feature heavily.

Hester - I hope things are better today. I think it's appalling that teachers behave like that but DH says so many do. He has been always great friends with support staff at every school/college he has worked because it seems like he is one of the very few who treats everyone with the same respect. Then other teachers act surprised when he can get his copying done or get the books he needs ordered or get a lab item or model he needs, and the rude ones can't!

Burgers and salad for dinner today. DH is having lunch at work and I am going to the pub for lunch as a very dear friend is leaving today. She has had her temporary contract terminated early as we are now in redundancy consultation and all permanent jobs are protected. It's so stupid as none of the permanent staff are qualified to do her job :(

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need them or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day :)

    Morning Hester, TTFTM and all,

Hester - I always cringe a little when you tell about work - they treat you so badly - at the end of the day without admin staff being so good at their jobs, the whole thing starts to fall apart, bit like a proffessional kitchen, if the pot washer goes on strike, the kitchen would grinde to a halt, even the most qualified chef in the world cant use dirty pots. Enjoy a lovely weekend with your family, the weather is suppossed to be beautiful, so maybe factor in a little siesta and a bit of hestering ......;)

TTFTM - sorry about your friend, we,ve had similar at work, some staff have been on temp contracts for 4 years plus, know the job inside out, hugely qualified, then 'let go' almost over night, leaving us with a huge skills gap and missing our friends/colleagues and having to do the work too - i do an adverage of 50 hrs per week - contracted for 37, and i,m one of the one,s that doesn,t do too much extra, Hmmm, can feel myself going into rant mode, so better stop :D

Anyhoo - nothing planned for dinner, will have a rummage when I get home - evening to ourselves so might just be cheese and biscuits etc.

Weekend - shopping, cooking, cleaning, washing, ironing and most of all RELAXING. Been a carp week, but its nearly over

Time to get to the fun factory

Have a fab day all x

    Morning everyone :D

Hooray..it's Friday!:j:j Hubby is on a half day today so will be back by 2 hooray! I have really missed him this wek, it's been quite difficult to adjust to the fact he's not sat next to me all day killing aliens on whatever computer game is flavour of the month lol.

Good news, he got his first wages paid into the bank this morning, unfortunately Income Support have paid us too so we need to get on the phone and sort it out. I've put the money into a saving account for now so it doesn't get accidently spent. :o

My uneventful day yesterday turned quite exciting in the end. My eldest DD dragged me off to Barnstaple on the bus. We even sat upstairs and bagsied the front seats. I felt like a kid again lol. I went to a lovely cookstore and managed to get a 6" cake tin so I was very happy. I've been copying out some recipes from the grocery challenge and the ' what have you baked today' thread so I needed it.

Today is going to be quite busy, Mr T is going to be delivering sometime between 8 and 10, just waiting for a text from them and then when the shopping is put away I need to go to the council offices and take in written confirmation of OH's job with his first wage slip. It seems like everybody wants copies of it so I'm going to have to get it photocopied somewhere in town. I think the library does it so I might pop in there.

I think we might be having a chinese for tea tonight to celebrate his first wage packet so I am having a night off cooking. I am going to be very careful what I choose though as Weightwatchers has been going well this week and I don't want to blow it.:D

Hope everyone has a good day and gets to see some sunshine. Hugs for those who need one. Cheers m'dears x

Good morning all a beautiful sunny morning here in the Garden of england. History club this afternoon so morning off indoors doing ironing before it overwhelms me :):)
last night DGD 2 Holly arrived in a panic, she wanted me to 'help' make her some goodies for school this morning .She helps out at her Mums special needs school when not at Uni as a TA.So although my house is in a real mess and the kitchens all upside down we cracked on and made 5 dozen oatie biscuits and a large Victoria sponge cake. She went off happy and laden down.My builder is really doing well and I'm hoping it will all be done by Tuesday. Its starting to look so much better and brighter already.Right time to get some coffee on the go, no school run this morning though as Mikey is away with his school until tonight.he will be full of it when he comes home later this afternoon though I bet.
have a great day everyone what ever you are doing
    Cheers chums JackieO xxx

    Morning :hello:

A boring day here. Food shopping this morning, we're off to Morrison's. It's just occured to me, me and mr tru should split up in the shop, get half the shopping each and then we'll get two vouchers instead of one. An extra £10 off our shopping once a month. Can't believe I didn't think of that before

We have to wait in for a delivery this afternoon, usually our neighbour will happily take parcels for us but it's a bit much to expect them to take in long lengths of guttering :D We'll probably watch a DVD, I vote for the latest Underworld film, I love monsters :D

I made THIS while waiting for a delivery of yarn for my blanket, am quite proud of it :D

    Morning everyone

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Blue sky and sunshine to start the day here. Washing on the line. Plants to be watered.

DH and DS1 up and off to work stupid early.

Dinner last night was omlettes, so used up a whole big box of eggs, they had mushrooms and cheese in them and delicious they were too, I served them with chips, and salad (first lot of HG salad leaves) and pasta salad. Menfolk had victoria sponge for dessert. I had mushroom omlette and salad. Tonight DS2 and I will eat before we go to meet DH and DS1 at the caravan - I will organise them something once we arrive on site. I have been trying really hard with eating well and at last the scales are tipping in the right direction - stood on the scales this morning and I'm now 1/2 lb lighter, so will just keep going although it looks like I'm going to have to work for every 1lb of weight loss - but it had just halted and everything I did wouldn't make it move so had a couple of weeks of being really good and then having a day where I would eat much more (not bad food just some different stuff too) and it seems to have kick-started the weight loss again.

Was reasonably productive yesterday, got up early and over to next town where I got my faulty bra exchanged and had a mega quick nosey in a couple of shops - only paid for an hours' parking so didn't have long. Got back and cracked on with the ironing - then packing, I will take the clothes bag and some other bits round to the caravan as it's en route to town, where I need to visit the bank and then do the food shopping. I hope to be able to do some baking/cooking when I get back later, it seems to make a big difference to how much I spend on top-up shops during the week if I've baked.

Have a good day - remember the suncream if you're out in the sun!

    Keep safe and well x
