After the 'Isle of Wight' debacle last year my husband had refused to ever go camping again!! I was 8 months pregnant at the time - and we didn't do airbeds...we're proper campers!

Hope you enjoy your holiday - kids love camping! -just remember wellies for those early-morning-stomp-through-the-dew walks to the toilet block!!

poe.tuesday - You really over-do it! We just take airbeds, duvet (Better than maggot bags), plastic plates and cutlery, lights, small stove and kettle. A few years ago in Cornwall, one of the other campers hoovered the tent each night! And the tip of not over-doing it is good, I know a lot of people who bought all the gear, then decided that they did not like camping.

I have always over done it when it comes to sleeping under canvas, I used to spend my summers back in the 80's going to all the festivals, couldn't have a normal tent like everyone else, had to have a tepi with a fire and lots of rugs underfoot - oh the stench

I am even thinking about getting a blow up sofa now for my camping trips ;)

*sighs* good ole'camping, nothing better than spending a few days in a muddy field.

A wind shield is a great idea if you want some privacy around your tent, or you can make a "make-shift" toilet next to your tent, great if you have children. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/0198431.htm

I made the grave mistake of buying a cheapie tent from Tesco, it was a 4 man with a pretty leaf design flysheet, what sold it for me was the ease of putting it up, pull 2 strings and hey presto the tent was up, but unfortunatly, it was not waterproof, with the refund and compensation offered from Tesco, I went to Halfords and bought a lot more practical one, it is classed as a family delux tent with 2 bedrooms, living area, 2 double air beds, 4 delux sleeping bags, 2 lanterns, and is currently on offer at £99.00, instead of £199.00. Hopefully we will go off to Hollands Wood in the New Forest in early August and try it out.

Seem a bit late for this thread but I would always buy a tent bigger than what you think you need. We have got a 4 man for 2 of us and the dog and it's great. Always try and go for a make that you know. We have a Vango and worked a treat over the last bank holiday when it pi**ed it down and blew a gale :T
