I recently sold my trike the buyer paid in scottish notes, I went to accrington to purchase a freelander with the money, the seller would not accept scottish notes & asked if i would go to the halifax in accrington to change into english money, I deposited £2050 in scottish notes into my account the cashier checked this twice before depositing, then i withdrew £2050 in english notes went an purchased the freelander, 2 days later i receive a letter from the manager at halifax saying their was only £1950 & have took £100 out of my account to cover the cashiers error??? I phoned them to dispute this & was told i could be prosecuted if the manager phoned the police??? what for i dont know?? I dispute their was only £1950 how do i go about getting my money back? if i walked away an 2 days later said the cashier only give me £1950 i would not have a leg to stand on so how can the halifax do this to me I am now down £100 through no fault of my own

Did you pay over the counter?
Tellers would check any amount paid in whilst you were at the counter.
Presumably you obtained a receipt.
Raise a complaint.0 -

yes the cashier checked the amount twice, and also gave me a receipt the manager states they checked it again after i had gone an their was only £1950 i could understand a Fifty or twenty shortage but £100 is outrageous she cant have counted it twice an made a mistake0 -

Perhaps they took 50 each? :cool?:
As pooch says, raise a complaint. Keep original receipt, only send a copy if necessay.0 -
If the cashier counted the cash in front of you and gave you a receipt for the full amount then they can't just debit your account.
The only way they could debit your account the £100 is if some of the notes were counterfeit but you say the manager just said it was a mistake by the cashier.
Raise a complaint and send them a copy of the receipt you were given - which shows the cashier received £2,050, that's what they confirmed by issuing you with the receipt.0 -
Wow what a cheek Halifax.
Yes raise a complaint - to head office and cc. the branch concerned. Send a photocopy of your receipt for the full amount and ask them to refund the £100 they took from your account without permission - plus interest!
You could phone the branch concerned and make sure they keep a copy of the CCTV in case it's required.
Do you have anyone who witnessed the count by any chance?~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
