There was no late payment! The guy from Orange has told me that the contract was cancelled on the 24/12/12. I owed them nothing, it was all paid up via a direct debit from my account. Once the last payment had been paid in January, I cancelled the dd. I was told that Orange keep your payment details for 3 years. This is an error on Oranges part. They have attempted to take money from my account in error.

What I'm saying is, you should have fought to have the incorrect late payment markers removed BEFORE making any applications.

I wrongly assumed that because I have always paid every bill on time, in 20 years never missed a mortgage payment, haven't had a loan or credit in over 5 years and never go overdrawn that I wouldn't have a problem remortgaging! I never thought in a million years there would be a problem with my credit rating!

Remember though you can't check your credit score as there's no such thing, what Experian does is sell you a score which is full of descrepencies and a lender wouldn't see nor would they care what Experian scores you as the the lender will do their own criteria scoring.

Yeah, you'll soon turn into the bitter cynic that I've become over the years.

TBH you're far from the only one who has had issues with Orange.

My mother, my OH, and I have all been subject to late payment markers when closing orange accounts, because they've either mis-reported data or failed to take final payments by DD despite still having the DD set up.

They must have some inherent system issues, I dread to think how many other people are affected who haven't found out.

Another example of how Telecommunication providers and utility providers should have to take more responsibility in making right their wrongs quicker, or remove the ability to report to credit reference agencies if they cannot get it correct.

    Who was the 2nd lender?

There will be lenders that will lend, worthwhile you checking your Equifax too and seeing how this is recorded there?

Would hope your advisor is thinking about solutions, rather than just firing off applications....

    All the best

Lesson learnt then :p I understand why you wouldn't expect any adverse information to be on there, but it's best to check just in case. Sometimes incorrect information is placed on the file by a company you did deal with or, perhaps more worryingly, information is sometimes placed on a person's file who has never dealt with that company!

If you have a look around these forums, there are hundreds of reports of incorrect markers on people's reports. I had a year and a half of late payment markers myself that I got removed.

I hope my posts don't come across as lectures as that's not my intention, I'm just trying to point out why it's best to check your credit files with all three agencies prior to applying for anything, even if you're sure you've done nothing wrong.

Spoke to someone at Orange on Friday who again confirmed that is was incorrect information. He suggested speaking to Experian so I gave them a call. They were really helpful and sent an email to Orange flagging my case as a serious issue. Got an email on Monday morning from orange saying it was an error and they have advised all credit agencies. Had an email today from explain to say my credit has been amended. I've checked my credit report and it all looks as it should. So FA is going to reapply tomorrow to Abbey. Fingers crossed!

Call your FA NOW and tell him to HOLD OFF THE APPLICATION.

You will need to raise disputes with Experian, Equifax and Call Credit not just one of the three.

You then need to wait whilst the dispute goes through the process. For them to write to Orange, orange reply, and then the credit reference agency amend the data takes upto 28 days.

It doesn't matter what they tell you on the phone IT DOES TAKE TIME.

You MUST WAIT until YOU CAN SEE FOR YOURSELF that the late payment marker has GONE from ALL THREE CREDIT FILES before you apply with ANYONE!
