Orange have screwed up my credit rating - Refused Mortgage

The long and short of this ridiculous story is:
My husband and I have applied for a mortgage through a FA. We both have excellent credit ratings (999). We were turned down by the abbey. Reason given: I missed 2 payments to Orange in March of this year. I cancelled the Orange contract on 24/12/12 after they wrongly overcharged me £474! Orange refunded me most of the money in March, debiting my final payment. I have spoken to someone at Orange has has advised me to send an email to the credit department. They have sent an automated response saying they will reply within 7 days!!
So due to their mistake we have been declined a mortgage.

Is there anything I can do to make this move faster? FA says that if we get this removed he can reapply again.

Thanks

Kelly

I am afraid we will lose the house we are going for as FA has just advised another lender has turned us down. Trying to be positive, what will be, will be. But Orange are just so !!!!!!!!

For what it's worth I've been in contact with the credit department at Orange and they are quite helpful. They know when they are in the wrong and will sort it.

You wouldn't happen to have the telephone number for the credit department would you?! Orange are so difficult to get through to!

TBH even once you get through to them and have them admit they're wrong the changes to your credit file aren't likely to take effect inside a month.

And tell your FA to stop applying for things in your name, these footprints he's leaving on your credit file are further damaging your chances.

You need to consider the information in your credit report, not the useless random number given (999). This thread is a prime example of why.

Ideally you should have tried to resolve this late payment problem before applying for anything, because you now have at least two recent searches on your report.

There was no late payment! The guy from Orange has told me that the contract was cancelled on the 24/12/12. I owed them nothing, it was all paid up via a direct debit from my account. Once the last payment had been paid in January, I cancelled the dd. I was told that Orange keep your payment details for 3 years. This is an error on Oranges part. They have attempted to take money from my account in error.

Another nail in the coffin of pointless credit scores. This classic example being a score of 999 with missed payments on file.

OP - regarding your issue, it could take up to 6 weeks for your credit file to reflect the change that Orange will have to make. Sorry to advise this but it could be a stressful wait.

Would a notice of correction help? An underwriter would need to review the mortgage anyway. Although given that there have been 2 recent searches a final one could be the limit or an expensive mortgage.
