Mrs. Percy must have to pinch herself.

Why would you ridicule someone doing exactly whay you suggest, i..e cutting back?

You simply cannot win if you are on your little nag list.

I thought it would have been higher.

Well I just don't see the whole "its not a holiday if you don't get on a plane" attitude. There is so much to see and do on the island I live on.

The tour of Scotland we did was epic, basically book travelodges all over Scotland and got to see loads of stuff.

It does make me laugh when people spend a fortune and just sit in the sun somewhere and talk about how loverly the hotel is.

I like to get out and look around, I don't care how nice a hotel is as I am not stopping there. One of the best days of my life was renting a jeep in malta and having no idea where we were, we found a church the size of my shed and played cards with some germans.

I'm pulling his leg. Sorry you were offended.

Whatever, the average household spend on holidays is more than the saving you're looking for in a single hit.

The family holiday tends to be a priority non-essential. I reckon people would rather do some of the many other things that have been suggested before losing the holiday.

I am guessing thats probably the same as the average wedding costing £10k. (guess what, mine cost nothing close to £10k).

Its like a revelation when you see past the bullpoo productions people call life, I knew £10k wouldn't make me love my wife more on our wedding day and I can see the difference between a travelodge and 'nice' hotel is the pictures on the walls and price tag. But people feel they must do these things because what would soceity think if they didn't?

It isn't the money you spend but the experiences you feel which make you rich.

Churchill reckon £4792 for a family of four - that seems too high though.

    You're not wrong.

There's plenty the average family could cut down on and it wouldn't make a jot of difference, with the right attitude, to their lifestyle or levels of fulfillment.

Might help them if the mortgage was to increase too.

I have, as the wife works in school, it does limit our holiday options.
