where do i stand as the buyer?

I recently ordered some pew end pull bows from a seller on eBay for my upcoming wedding.

The listing stated I could chose 3 colours from their chart so I chose 2 shades of purple and a yellow.

I received them this morning. One of the 'purples' is not a purple at all. It's like a red/brown colour. Nothing like what was shown on the listing.

I politely emailed them asking if a mistake has been made, but no, they made the bows using the colours I chose. The seller was so rude and unhelpful it was unreal.

I put a clam into paypal and escalated it straight away as I knew the seller wasn't going to resolve. I would have been more than happy with the items being replaced.

Paypal decided in their favour and I'm now nearly £40 out of pocket.

The above links should take you to images of the colours chosen and the a photograph of the colour received.

I'm not an unreasonable person. If it was just a slight difference I would understand that colours look different on different monitors etc. but it's a completely different colour.

Is there anything else I can do?

There is no reasoning with the seller- they are the most unhelpful business I have ever had to deal with and I have been nothing but polite to them.

£40 may not seem a lot but it is to us while planning the wedding- we're trying to do it on a budget and really can't afford to lose the money.

I appreciate any help and advice, Thanks

    Ridiculous! They're totally different colours!

I wonder why Paypal decided in their favour. I'd try an online chat with a member of ebay or emailing them?

Sorry I can't be of much help but I hope you get this sorted!

Just out of curiosity - what was the seller's returns policyon the listing?

Thank you! I knew I wasn't being unreasonable! ha

Although it was an eBay listing it wasn't ordered through eBay, the listing they had was for 12 bows and I wanted 25 so they just sent me an amended paypal invoice. So I'm not sure if eBay could help me in anyway.

They don't accept returns. They say because it is a bespoke item and made to order I'm stuck with it basically.

When emailing them earlier they kept saying I could have used their free colour matching service, but I didn't have anything to send to match the colour too plus I didn't mind if it didn't exactly match everything I just wanted purple and not a browny red!

    annoyed!

Ahh I see, this is why I always try and do things through ebay - too many con artists out there!

It could be a genuine mistake on their behalf which is fine - but its the way they are refusing to rectify it that is the cheek of it!

I understand they don't accept returns, but its not like you've changed your mind - it is their error!

I guess you could try re-listing the bows you've bought and buy from elsewhere?

    :(

Yeah, I thought that if anything went wrong I would be covered through paypal though.

Yeah, exactly, I would be more than happy for them to rectify it. I'm not just trying to get my money back.

I could try to re-sell but the colours really don't work that well together so I doubt anyone would want them :(

    Thanks

Could you not keep the purple ones you are happy with, sell the others and try and find another set to go with the ones you keep?

Did Paypal say why they ruled against you?

I'd phone Paypal and argue it out.

Perhaps it's because you escalated straight away, not giving the seller chance to respond that they went in the seller's favour?

If you have no luck, the evidence clearly shows the colour you received isn't the colour you were sent, so you could send a "Letter Before Action" threatening court action??

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
