Just don't get why people post such nonsense.
How is it any worse than your previous post where you said to only use Techcombank ATMs without giving any reason for such a categorical statement?0 -
As others have said US$ is a widely accepted currency, you could probably get by without using Dong at all. Cash machines are everywhere though.
I literally left Vietnam today so I've still got some sitting in my wallet. :P0 -
I didn't realise dong was a currency, I thought it was a thread asking the best place to buy drugs - whoopsproud gran to 4 lovely boys and one little girl0

So could HSBC ever be 'the best'? Ignorance is bliss eh?
My apologies good sir. I found HSBC best because it allowed me to withdraw a larger amount of money and thus over time I incurred less charges. Every other machine I used charged me to withdraw less money, I'm not sure if I used Techcombank though. No nonsense here my friend. What's gone will never come back. But it exists when you think of it ...0 -

Thanks for clarifying. At least we understand why you thought it was best.
Now you know, use Techcombank in conjunction with a fee free card. They don't levy any ATM fees. I used a Mastercard, if that makes a difference.0 -
Depending where you are in Vietnam I found it easier to just use whichever ATM I found. When I was in Hoi An I spent ages looking for an ATM one evening as the first three I went to had run out of cash!0

And if you'd taken a few seconds to say that in your first post your response to poor johno's post would have been acceptable, but as you didn't it wasn't.0 -

The travel money tool doesn't seem to include it
Just take US$ as they will be accepted in most places, as that is all we did a few years ago. Make sure the $ bills are not torn, as they have a aversion to accepting those. Wherever you get to, then you can exchange the dollars for the Dong.
We used travellers cheques as the were easy to convert in the banks there. As Manuel says in Fawlty Towers: " I Know Nothing"0 -
VND is a soft currency so not supposed to be traded/available outside Vietnam - however it is available:
Post Office for home delivery orders - min spend
Travelex for collection at Gatwick North Terminal
Advise take a small amount of dong for arriving - Hanoi and ho chi minh city airports money exchange may be closed when you arrive, irregular hours. Take USD or GBP change in Vietnam.
In Ho Chi Minh - Parkson department store on Dong Khoi a block north of the Opera house opposite Vincom shopping centre offers a decent rate on exchange normally, just be careful not to bring any Dong home!0
