Did you use the extra timber on your customer's job?
If yes then you needed it anyway. So pay for it.
If no then you should still have it, so your options are either to return it to the supplier or pay for it.

...but he'd have a tough job to pass the additional cost on to his customer if they've already settled up....leaving him out of pocket for the difference.0 -

You might not even have the right to ask the customer for more money! If you quoted £x to do the job and the customer paid £x amount then you have no grounds whatsoever.0 -
Hang on a minute - What If I had not had an account and had paid cash or a debit card and walked out of the door - what would they do then ? I have completed the contract of sale by signing for the quantity of goods at the price they have stipulated when I signed the delivery note ( being an account customer) - the mistake is theirs at any time after that point surely0

That may have washed if it had been an incorrect price, but you signed for double the quantity of timber than you received and thought you'd got away with it. I bet you wouldn't have signed an incorrect delivery note so quickly if you'd only received half the quantity you'd received.
At the end of the day, you've had the goods, if you want to trade with them again pay, if you've got another supplier don't, but be prepared for word to spread around local merchants that you're a bad debtor.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Personally, I'd do it the other way round...I'd say to them "look...i've already charged my customer...I don't see why I should have to pay out...either you swallow the £90 or I take my business elsewhere..." then the supplier either loses the £90 and keeps OP's business, or OP pays up then takes their business elsewhere...no word's going to get around - because OP did pay up as the door was closing behind him...0 -

No, it'll be more along the lines of "don't deal with him mate, he tried to rip me off, didn't want to pay for the timber I sold him, so I told him where to go"Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
