  • This is exactly where the DUP went wrong... It is neither a Party nor a Parliamentary matter... It is a matter of Fraud and Evidence.... At the time Red Sky were the main company they had Evidence against off carrying out this behaviour..... As for the Parties behaviour after this with all sorts of dodgy meetings.......... Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm !!!!!

;)Allegedly! If Brimstone acted without direction ie off his own bat, it will be very difficult to implicate McCausland. Having said that you should be expected to know what your Special Adviser is up to! (especially when it is no good! ;) )

Brimeston will probably get moved on to bigger and better things.

The DUP have a history of special advisors moving on to bigger and better.

Like Invest N.I. chief executive Alastair Hamilton.

He was Ian Paisley special advisor in 2007.

He now heads invest N.I. on 200k a year.

The prime Minister gets paid 150K a year.

Arlene Foster DUP was kind enough to approve ex DUP special advisor Alastair Hamilton’s 20% pay rise on her very LAST day in office in 2012.

Why would she do this on the very last day? Could it be something to do with the fact the same MLA approved the 1% pay rise for public sector workers? Who needs nurses and fire-fighters when you have special advisors and QUANGO chief executives?

God how do I get to be a DUP special advisor. Working for big Ian one minute, then getting paid more than our Prime Minister the next. I don't even have to succeed at the job.

  • They are all Corrupt....... You'd be amazed how many of the "old boys" the shinners have bought houses for in West Belfast "Allegedly" !! to keep them sweet.......... Hence they have their "Big Salaries" paid into a central pot and only "apparently" take a "working mans wage" Not too bad a salary really when you don't have a mortgage or any bills to pay!!

Hey, it worked for Jeremy Hunt:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2012/apr/25/jeremy-hunt-adam-smith-wolves

Assuming that there is a case to answer, whether or not McCausland stays will be more down to how much Peter Robinson needs him/owes him, than anything else. Same as with Hunt and Cameron. If the boss sees more value in throwing you under the bus, you'll be thrown under the bus. If the boss has a stake in keeping you on or owes you then you stay.

Of course, the results of a proper independent inquiry or the instigation of a criminal investigation could change all that - but that is hypothetical at this stage.

Well done to the BBC for bringing this to the public's attention - this is exactly what we expect to see in terms of proper journalism , not pathetic tabloid stories about the sex lives of celebrities.

That's so true. I just think the DUP are the most obvious. Especially when it comes to Peter and Ian Jr. trying to help their developer friends out and getting handshakes in return.

Its bit like what I was saying in the tap water thread. We get awful customer service in some places but still we go back and give them our hard earned cash. We still vote for these people even though they’ve been exposed.

Time and time again our politicians have proved that when it boils done to it, all they are interested in doing is observing the status quo, and feathering their own nests and their family and friends nests.

Catholic or Protestant, it doesn't really matter. Their religion is elitism. The Catholic and Protestant working class can't be a part of that. They don't have the connections or the access. Our politicians won't let them.

There isn't a single statesman amongst them.

The people get the politicians they deserve.

Just as the people in the RoI found out that generations of voting for greedy, often stupid, openly crooked 'cute hoors' got them an appalling government that wrecked the state by taking on the bankers debts for them ... so are NI electors finding out that repeatedly voting for a bunch of dodgy shysters on sectarian lines gets them a bunch of dodgy shysters in government, willing to resort to the sectarianism card to cover their tracks.

NI is small enough that an informed, engaged electorate could bring the politicians to heel resulting in a fair, equitable society where the people benefit fully from revenues generated and have a real say in decisions that affect them.

Unfortunately I don't really see people here being any more intelligent than those in GB or the RoI - easily distracted by bread and circuses with no real interest in current events or economics.

Plus, there's the perception (not entirely unfounded) that 'public money' is coming from somewhere else anyway (thank you taxpayers of the South of England) so abuses of it are nothing to be that worried about.

Couple that with an unhealthy prevalence of sectarianism running through society where people will happily vote for anyone who wraps themselves in the corresponding flag and blames 'the other side' for everything, and I don't really have much hope.

And where are we going to get them? Is there a country they could emigrate from? :rotfl:
