Dave, The original poster wants her £2 back at the checkout. She uses Sainsburys five, 5, times a week.
She wants to live in a cashless society lifestyle.
It costs her £10 in pound coins. Thats five £2 coins to carry around in the car unecessarily (spelling! cant be bovvered). The space those five coins occupy come at a premium.0 -

If she walked to the shops she'd not need any cash.dangeroussports wrote: »It costs her £10 in pound coins. Thats five £2 coins to carry around in the car unecessarily (spelling! cant be bovvered). The space those five coins occupy come at a premium.
She might have a very very small car...The money, Dave...0 -
But she wants to drive her car to her local Sainsburys five times a week to get Milk, newspaper, bread and anything else.
The point is that the OP wants her £2 in cash. Judging by the OP 5 times a week shopping, she leads a very busy life. The OP could ask the cashier for £2 cash back but that would mean adding a few more minutes into a transaction. Time is at premium.0 -
Thanks for replies.
No one else is bothered about the policy - didn't really expect it.
Being "local" in this case means a "walking distance" of 35 minutes one way, so I did tend to call in by car en route to other things. I've now adjusted my shopping and go elsewhere.0 -
Has it caused you inconvenience to go elsewhere?0

They've probably changed the policy to stop staff helping themselves to the odd £2 here and there. The tills will have to tally up at the end of the day and they need to account for how many £2's have been given back to people using the car park.
If it's deducted from the bill then the till won't be all scatty.0 -

I live an almost cashless life but carry £2 in coins so that it’s there for the car park and to be replaced at the till. No longer.
In the past I’ve sometimes been asked if I want the £2 deducted from my bill (and have always taken the cash instead). Today I wasn’t asked: the £2 was just deducted.
I mentioned to Customer Service that I was not happy about this but was told that this was the new policy (no cash refunds just deduction from bill) and there were notices “all over the doors” to the store.
I could not see any such notices but I recognised a supervisor/manager in the carpark and asked him to point out the notices to me. There were none – the policy was introduced about 3 weeks ago and the notices had been up for about 2 weeks.
He agreed that some customers were inconvenienced but that it was a policy from on high, not the local store, and there were reasons for it (not specified).
I used to use Sainsbury’s as my local store, calling in about 5 days a week for a newspaper, milk, bread as well as other shopping. This policy means I would have to break my cashless society life-style and get £10-worth of pound coins every week just to feed the car park.
Venting over – but does anyone else have a problem with this policy?
Use a different supermarket:rolleyes:0 -
