How to put stripes in my lawn? Advice needed plz

Hi everyone
I would like some advice on how I can cut my lawn so it has stripes in it or even better, squares.
Our back garden is grassed, it is lovely and thick green grass as I have fed it a few times this year and it grows ever so well. I cut it every Friday night as a rule. I
I am not sure what type of grass it is as to be honest this is the first house where we have had grass but I now love gardening.
I have a brand new Bosch Rotak 340ER Electric Rotary Lawnmower if this helps. We did have a fly mower but I really didn't think it was doing my grass any favors.

Thank you for any advice or help

Why don't you get stripes now? That mower has a roller which is what leaves the stripes.

I have read you have to go up the lawn one way then back down the opposite way. I have been mowing one way all the time.
I think that is where I have been going wrong.
It has been leaving faint stripes but if I can I would like them more prominent

My dad used to cut his lawn then go back and forth over it with a yard brush to create the stripes, it never failed to impress :)

Don't cut it too short (raise the cutting height) , the "stripes" are the blades of grass lying flat

Cool. Well I have a good stiff yard brush. Will have to try that. Did he cut it then go up one way with the brush then down the next stripe the other way?

    Thanks Tiexen.
My mower goes from 5 which is the highest to 1. At the moment I have it on 2.

Yes, he was even able to put circles in as well, it took a bit of work but he would lay a line using string to keep the paterns then go opposite directions with each sweep.

Thanks for that. For now I will be trying to get good stripes and as I get more confident I will try to do ace things like circles.
What setting would you suggest I cut my grass? My mower has five settings. Five is the highest.
    Thanks

It will be down to experimenting but I would suggest that you start with the longest cut, that way you can always cut it shorter without having to wait for it to grow :p
