Summer activities for kids: crafting ideas

What crafting activities do you have planned for your kids for the summer holidays that'll help other MoneySavers?

We are planning a printmaking workshop in our village hall. We plan to do potato printing, simple collagraphs, that one where you draw into polystyrene and print from that, the one where you put ink on an acrylic sheet then remove it to print, and maybe a couple of others. Fun for all ages from little kids right through to the really big ones!!

I do a lot of crafts with my little ones especially my daughter who is craft mad. Lots of painting, sticking, drawing etc feature heavily in our school holidays

The biggest project we have planned for this summer is a
Walk in the countryside to (hopefully) find really long (6ft) twigs, to use as a base for a Indian wigwam. We will use plain fabric (old bed sheets) which the kids can decorate as they wish.

A cheap craft we do is buy cheap photo frames and deco patch it using old newspapers or magazines these can then be given as a gift with a photo of te child in. Or u can use gems, stickers etc

Dd also wants to make some candle holders using old glass jars and coloured tissue papers.

Dd is also really interested in sewing and we are using old clothes with pretty prints to make things. She has so far stitched herself a handbag, purse and a padded heart. I was really cautious about her using a needle s she's only five, but she's had no accidents as yet.

With the youngest who's two we will probably do some paint bubble pictures ( squirt of paint, squirt of washing liquid and water in a cup, blow through a straw with a piece of paper on top)

I suspect we will most likely make some kind of paper mâch! and salt dough sculptures too.

I would like to try making moulds of my nieces and nephews hands or feet, using alginate. I am going to practice on myself first! I think it is very safe, though, and it would make a nice keepsake.

That looks brilliant. We did this and had a metal cast made a few years go. It would be quite good to do the childrens ands each year and watch them grow.
