Resident parking v Business vehicles parking
I am looking for some advice
We are a small street of 12 properties on a main road with a dentist at one side and Jewish school at the other.
Outside the Jewish school is a 30min time allowed, the dentist has 2 parking bays then double yellow lines going to the left and then ourselves slap bang in the middle.
We have the dentist staff, customers and some of the Jewish teachers all parking outside our homes that can fit approx 6-7 vehicles in.
We a have requested permits and this is being dealt with but a letter against the proposed permits has been received to our council.
My question is.....when businesses overrun an area and residents are unable to park within 200 metres of their home then is there any laws to help us?
Much is said in the Highway Code about people and parking but I can't remember where I read about the about statement.
Any help would be most appreciated.
Yours
David

Where do Business Vehicles come into it? If the School has a minibus then maybe.
No there isn't a law that says other people shouldn't park outside your house.
All you can do is ask the council to implement resident's permits (and then you will be paying to park in your preferred road remember). Which then pushes the teachers into a neighbouring road to annoy other residents and so on...
I speak as one who lives in a road between 2 schools - and I can't even park in the evening some days because of Parent's Evening or the WI using the hall.I need to think of something new here...0 -
I used to park in just such a street and then walk 2 miles into work (inner city).
I blamed the money grabbing barstewards at the local council,. It's £4 a day on their car parks and they put double yellow lines down every street within 5 miles to force people onto them, they also try to shut down any privately owned car parks. I can't afford £4 a day just to park for work, so I parked in the only street they can't paint, the one full of doctors surgeries and dentists.
I'm sorry but your problem could very well be a result of the same situation.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

It's more that the Business Vehicles are the dentists staff.
I/We as residents are trying to get permits in and also I have looked at the area to see if there was a more courteous way to look at this.
I'd suggested the rear of the property be a parking area as, at least, 3 vehicles could park in the dentist area.
The Jewish school to open the 20 bays they have so their staff can park inside the premises.
There are 2 spaces outside of the dentists that could be used for staff.
Even, approximately 75 feet ways, an area that, if Tarmac was layed, could be used as a parking area.
We haven't looked at this blindly and have tried to get the whole thing sorted so everyone can know what is happening.
The permits will come into force, which we pay £25 for, but also then a 2 hour waiting for those to go to the dentists!? So we are paying while others wouldn't and still, possibly, wouldn't even be able to park still.
Also thank you for the replies.0 -
It's a public road, what gives you any more right than people visiting the dentist or school?
I assume you bought your house there knowing they were there already?
I bought my house, and have a drive, where I park, could you not have a drive?I am a mortgage adviser. You should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Keep lobbying your local counsellor, they will eventually put permits in, but they have to be mindful to not drive trade away from the dentist and cause problems in pick ups from the school.
Where I live Walsall Housing Group built a new office block and moved in a year ago, since then every day our street is over-run with parked cars belonging to people working at the WHG building, or now by people who work in Walsall who have cottoned onto free parking (a large number work for the council...)
My neighbour has collated photographic evidence of the issues (how it changes from day to night), got petitions signed by residents, etc etc, to a point where the Public Notices of the intended parking permits are up now, and hopefully will be sorted soon. There has to be some flexibility from residents, 2 hour waiting in some parts of the street, the street is being made one way, we're having to pay for permits, but it's to suit all involved.
It's taken a year, so be patient, gain the support of your neighbours, collate evidence as to the problems caused, and good luck with it!0 -
Since when have people's cars become business vehicles? They are their cars to commute in, if you want your own private parking space then buy a house with a drive and stop whinging.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

IMO council will feel more in favour of the businesses. They pay huge rates and arguably having visitors parking is essential for business.
If you have residents permits you can park anywhere in the borough. Living in london, I'm used to parking a few meters away - sometimes on a different road.
But I work from home so I can bring my car right in front of my house whenever a space opens up.0 -

Of course it is relevent, have you seen the size of those old Volvo's they drive.:D;)0 -
It's more that the Business Vehicles are the dentists staff.
How are they business vehicles? Are they owned by the dentist's surgery?
This is one of the joys of not having a drive, as above if you don't like it and the council won't do anything, buy a house with a drive.
Of course there's no law on people parking outside your house, although the morons on the street I used to live on (with no driveways) all had signs up asking people not to park outside their house.
I used to take a preference to the houses with those signs...0
